K-flip question.

Okay, I can ollie with the proper (well what I think is proper) technique, but whenever I try to kick the board while ollieing my "kicking" foot just kicks the board and stays on it while my other foot lands behind on the ground. Now sometimes this can prove painful as my one foot is rolling off with the skateboard and the other is anchored on the pavement.

Do I need to slide my foot more off to the side of the board or just kick with less pressure on the board.

Also, i'm not here yet, but once I can get the full rotation I find the board tends to be further ahead of my body so I can't land on it. What am I missing here?

Thanks,

- Shane

Try kicking your toes strait up to where the board curves up then kick there and wtahc the board find the grip and slide your foot in/ hope this helps.

Couple things:

1) It takes a while to get the ankle flick motion just right, keep practicing.

2) The board lands in front of you 'cuz you're not committing. You get a bit scared & lean back as you're kickflipping. Stay centered, focus, & ollie straight up. Another thing that just takes practice.

it helps if youve got a lot of other tricks before kickflips. it will help you a lot later. so many people just want to learn kickflips and neglect the basics. try learning some 180s and shuvits and doing some stalls on ledges and curbs. it will get your ollies higher and make you a lot more comfortable on a board. also shuvits help you learn how to catch a board in midair and land on it without falling. keep working on the kickflips while working on some other basic tricks.

The Headless Chicken, do what he says. If you don't learn the basics it will hurt you in the long run.

This sounds like it is my mistake.

Yeah, i've already got some basics down like shuvs but I see where you guys are coming from. Thanks for all the feedback, and I wish it weren't raining today so I could go out and try to improve on all of your points.

eklipse, i like to put my skateboard on the carpet and skate on rainy days, because it can improve your ollie and any flip tricks a lot, and it makes you more use to catching the tricks in the air.

Beaver, yeah I ride Brannen when I can but it's much more convenient for us to ride in the ocean with the launch only 5 minutes away.

colefooter, yeah i've done that before with the wet weather we get up here in Canada, however it's not quite the same. P.S. Mr. Oizo is the tits!

Beaver, no, but i'm thankful for what i've got.

We have a Bayliner runabout with a monster tower and #300 fat sac, both new this year. Can't wait to get out and ride, and if you ever want a pull we'd be more than happy to hook you up bro.

I find standing in front of a table (or something else ~ waist height) helps get the correct motion down. Rest your hands on the table and practice flipping the board - this allows you to hold yourself up and essentially "defy gravity." By doing this you don't have to worry about landing primo or having the board shoot out from under you. You can get a feel for the motion needed to get the kickflip off properly, and how to bring your foot back on top of the deck once it flips.

Good luck! It's all about being patient and putting in an effort...

thats how i got kickflips dialed
