I don't see a video but you have to make sure you are popping up before you rotate. You don't want to initiate your rotation until the very top of the wake. It's hard to know exactly but if you're not getting enough height or rotation you're probably trying to throw it too early.

Just upload the video to the media galley here and then link to it. And 900kb isn't that big for a single trick. I don't think downloading a 1mb file will blow anyones modems up.

Well first of all the wake right there is really washy. You might want to try putting more weight in the front of your boat. It's hard to get good consistent pop when the wake is washy.

Well I was wrong. You're not throwing it too early. What you are doing is you are slicing through the wake and then rotating late. So by slicing through the wake instead of popping off it you are losing a lot of height. By rotating late you aren't getting around.

What I would focus on next time you try it is really bending your knees when you are coming into the wake. Then when you're coming up the wake make sure you are extending your legs so that you pop up off the wake. When you're at the top of the wake lean your upper body toward the tail of the board and it'll spin you right around.

Wakebrad, Gives some good advice, I'll add a few other things to keep working on.

Think about locking your heels into the water more, start the slow progressive edge into the wake locking your heels into the water. You should feel like you are sitting in a chair with a slight lean on the rope. Stay in this position all the way up the wake, you can even push hard at the bottom once you get more comfortable with the pop. Once you are locked in you just want to keep loading the line, loading the tail a bit at the wake and leading with the head. Look up and away after you release off the wake.

The reason the HS backroll is so easy (one of the first inverts most people learn) is cuz once you lock into the right position on the progressive edge into the wake you basically stay locked into that position until you release off the wake and spot the landing. Keep your body firm and quite on the approach and release.

when you come to the wake, flatten your board with the slope of the wake, instead of cutting into it like on a normal jump.

junior, you are either high on dope, or have no clue on how to explain what you are really talking about.

I was going to answer... why do I have to flatten the board?? I was always under the impression that the more tension the better. and to generate more tnesion and I need to edge more...am I right?

so, it seems to me that I need more air, how do I get it?

I agree that you are slicing through the wake and need to get pop instead. This is the same problem I had when learning a backroll. You might be trying to generate too much tension, you dont need to take a super huge cut to generate enough pop to get around on a backroll, you do have to make sure you are taking a strong progressive edge into the wake ans standing tall to create the pop you need. At the very top of the wake, when you are getting launched into the air and are starting your rotation bend your knees in towards your body so you rotate faster, spot your landing and absorb the landing alot easier.

I just started wakeboarding last summer and I atempted a back roll by the end of the year. I landed on my board several times but never succesfully with the rope. I would suggest to make sure that you are going full speed to the wake, and not hold anything back. As soon as the board gets off the water throww your back ear down. I havn't landed it myself though but i have gotten close many times I don't think it matters how high you get as long as its 4-5 feet you just got to spin fast

Thats no necessary, you don't need to throw anything, just let the momentum carry you around.

Well it depends how much air you get, for me I have to cause the momentum alone can't make me flip all the way around It just depnds how high you can jump

its a misconception that you need a whole bunch of speed to throw backrolls, i dont cut in as hard as alot of people explain, when i throw mine, i cut in progressive and instead of throwing the trick yourself, the wake practically does it for you. just try and ride up the wake standing tall and when at the top, get the board almost perpindicular to the wake and it will *most likely* throw u around Cool

IMO the wake does have a fairly significant role to play. We have a fairly small wake and have found that it does help to throw your head back once the wake has you moving in the right direction. Very Happy

DUDE MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THAT HANDLE PINNED TO YOUR HIPS!!! this will help you rotate a bit faster and help you spot your landing.

I had a pro explain it to me once, he said to carve up and through the wake like it was a tube. Basically pretend the wake keeps going. He also said you have to keep the handle into your waist. If its in you'll continue to rotate, if its out your rotation will stop. hope this helps good luck.

I just picked up "The Book" wakeboarding video set, and they did a really good job with explaining how each part of the trick is done. Actually, the video was extremely well done, I'd recommend to anyone looking to improve, but anyway...

They show it in two steps. First, the pop, you have to get on your edge. Not on your tail and slide in, but on your edge. They actually have you slide sideways and move side to side to get the feel of that. Once you are edging correctly, they show this as a "load and release" trick. So the way they get you to feel this is to get outside the wake a little, then dig in the back edge like you're edging away from the boat, then feel the board push back on you and stand you back up. This is the feeling you should feel at the trough of the wake.

When you put a good medium leg-bend EDGING cut into the wake, load it at the trough and release it at the top, that will give you the pop to take it up and the "kick the board back" rotation to get you around. I have not yet TRIED this, per say, but it made more sense to me than anything else anyone had ever explained to me on how to do this trick.

If I don't make sense, I'd advise getting the video set. Worth the [gulp] $90 I spent on it.

GAC, Watch your vid again in slo-mo... we can see the bottom of your board on the way in and then it goes flat right before the trough of the wake. If you listen to Kurt's explanation of this trick in "The Book", you should drift in slowly and then really start building your "progressive" edge 10-15 feet from the wake...your hardest edge should be at and thru the wake...

Mr. Mutt, I agree, the video is well done - nothing like heading down to Clermont for a week though! Hope to go back down in June.
