yes there is that much difference. cheap dept store boards feel like you are riding on a sponge. blanks are about as cheap as you will find, online stores sell them if you dont have a local store, otherwise go there and support the local business.

if you are just talking about the deck then for 30-40 bucks you can easily get a blank from anywhere.

Blanks are good boards. I reckon they are just as good as big name brand boards just with out a graphic. There are some crap blank boards out there but.

$8? you can't go wrong for $8.

you're not going to get very far since the ply is spongy, the bearings are crap and the wheels are too soft, but it's $8.

my first board was a hand-me-down (incidentally, from someone that used to ride zoo york). i paid $30 for a ccs blank (i think) and moved everything over. a little later i got wheels, then later on i just got a whole new setup.

google "blank skate supply." the stuff is pretty quality, and wicked cheap.

www.blankdecks.com is where i get pretty much all my stuff. awesome deals. i havent found lower prices anywhere. you can get complete starting at 50 but what you can do is slowly rplace parts on your walmart board. first get a new deck, grip and hardware, then maybe bearings and wheels and then trucks.
