I've had the same problem before and it's from the start of your rotation. Instead of riding up the wake and away, your putting your head you over your chest which is forcing you to do a front flip rotation which cuts through your line making you have to let go. So instead of kind of throwing your head into the rotation, carve up and away from the wake and let your direction form your rotation, not your head. Good luck with it... _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

Hey, it looks like your not really doing a back roll, i had the same problem, your doing more of a Mexi-roll, if you look at the video your spinning more front flip style, its called a Mexican roll im told.
http://photos.wakeboarder.com/showphoto.php?photo=6332&sort=1&cat=500&page=1
i showed people that and they said it was a mexiroll and yours looks similar.
To do a backroll you get your rotation from your cut away from the boat, if you look at a straight backroll clip you can see how the board kinda loops out behind the rider then comes back around for the landing. |

Along with what Davo.FSF said, bring your left shoulder up to your ear as you hit the wake and then look up instead of down once you leave the wake. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

| also, I'm having the problem that I come with a nice progressive edge, don't flatten out at the wake, try to keep the rope tight to my waist but keep spinning too slow , even people have told me that I get pretty big on the backrolls, but for some reason I can only rotate 3/4 of the trick and I land not completely on my back but also not completely on the board, I think I'm throwing the board very slow, how can you help me??? |

I think you could have rode out a few of those if you kept 2 hands on the handle.
Yes, those are all mexi style, nothing wrong with them you just can't spot the landing as early on those as you can on a regular progressive HS Roll.
Keep the handle in tight through-out the entire rotation, you can't do that with one hand on the handle. nice smooth approach, all W2W, you will get it.
Keep at it you are close.
hanssapo, You are not using the wakes energy, you need to load up at at the wake and have your strongest edge right as you release off the wake. If you just let the wake kick the board up and don't have line load you will physically have to speed the rotation up by bringing the handle in tighter in the air.
Explode off the wake don't just drop and let the board flop, you lose all your energy that way. NO clip so I'm just going on your description.... _________________ PEACE

What you are doing is called a Mexican roll, or mexican back roll...it is a legit trick. I have the same 'problem' and I have yet to fix it...but to help you land what your doing...
Edge a little harder into the wake
Edge all the way through to the top of the wake.
At the very top of the wake begin your rotation (from the vids it looks like your starting rotation a little late.
Hold on to the rope through the WHOLE rotation, like what was said above you probably could have pulled out of some of those.
Most importantly (this was my main problem while learning) is to keep your eyes OPEN the whole time, if you don't do that you won't know when or where to spot your landing.
----that looks like your biggest problem right now (spotting your landing)
Good luck and keep us posted...remember you can't claim it unless you land it three times in the same day |

You said it. It's amazing how much more often you'll land tricks this way. I say this in all seriousness cuz I had the same problem.. still do sometimes. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

| do you think that by throwing the board up and away, but at the same time throwing the head down, will help me spin faster??? |

my 2 cents worth, when you take your good hard progressive edge to the wake and up the wake try to take that same edge up the wake and away from the boat, that will iniate your rotation. that rotation is natural but you have to let the board and boat help you by using the speed and momentium(sp) of the boat. if you start to go up and away from the boat, then it is naturally to come back around with little to no effort. like they are telling you also it is HUGE that you keep your eyes open at all times and keep the rope in tight. just my 2 cents, hope it works for ya. keep it up,
good luck _________________ No Falls No Balls No Guts No Glory!!!!!!!!!!! |
