Hey everyone! I wanted to make myself known before I started feeling like a voyer! I'm Brandi, live in Texas and just started wakeboarding, kinda, this summer. My husband introduced me to the sport 2 summers ago when we first started dating. I never tried it even though he wanted me to until this summer due to being afraid of stupid murky water. We got married in St. Thomas this summer and went snorkeling and when I was snorkeling I saw a barracuda and about peed my bottoms! I figured after seeing that thing that close to me I could get in the stupid lake and river water and so have since started wakeboarding. I've had a few bad spills that have totally discouraged me from doing it again but I decided the other day I'm not going to just give up, but I'm going to go much slower.
But to make the long story short, I just wanted to come on here and say 'hi' and that y'all have some very interesting stories in this forum. And thank you for allowing me to be less productive at work.
See y'all around! |

That is so funny. When i was married we went snorkeling and the same thing happened. She was afraid of fish, so getting her in the water was one thing. Then this huge barracuda comes swimming under us, right in front of our faces. She jumps on my back with the quickness, my snorkel goes down and i'm trying to breath, my lungs fill with salt water and she is still on my back. People on the beach said they heard her scream and we were over 200 yards from them. When we got in the boat, they said that rings and flashy things attract them. She had her rings on.
Anyway, read that and it brought back memories.
You are in a good place here. These ladies will take good care of you. Take care |

Welcome Bradi, glad you hear you decided to get over your phobia and just go for it. I took some bad spills too but now that I have my form right, I tend to rarely face plant. Of course now that I've said that, I probably will next time out. |

The falls can definately be brutal, but if you are willing to push through them the reward is awesome... I, too, rarely have bad spills unless I'm pushing to try something new, even then, the falls don't seem as bad because they aren't those unexpected faceplants. Either that or I'm use to it...not sure which! So, anyway.... WELCOME Brandi and if you need any help with boarding, this is the place to post!
Enjoy! _________________ "A little stoke goes a long way..." |

Hey there Brandi, i just started visiting here too. Its very cool, interesting and great to know other girls riding out there. I have experienced seeing barracudas plenty of times and the first is the scarriest. Remember to take off any jewerly, sparkley items interest fish.
But i have to tell you about my first time seeing a shark in the water It was under a bridge checking me out, i was snorkling in the Keys and as soon as i saw it in the dark, i jumped in the Bow of a 21 foot Mako boat without even thinking about anything else but getting safe. To this day i will never understand how i did that. I mean literally i jumped into the boat like superwomen! I laugh about it now but it was sooooo scary at the time. |

Yeah that barracuda about made me lose all bodily function. I'm pretty much scared of fish, I think because I eat fish so much that they know and are going to get me back or something!
Luckily I don't think the barracuda saw me, however since we had just gotten married we both had our rings on and I have my belly button pierced so that was in. We were on pretty much a secluded beach but I'm sure if anyone had been on the beach they would have heard me scream through my snorkel! My husband was holding onto me to make me feel safe but he was on the right side of me and the barracuda was on the left. He never saw it because when I saw it I screamed and started swimming towards shore. My husband's snorkel went underwater so he had to hold his breath all the way back. To this day he still doesn't really believe me but I swear that sucker looked just like those guys in the Little Mermaid!
Laura, I don't know how you were able to handle looking at a shark face to face. What kind was it?? I'm so scared of sharks and snakes it's not even funny. I probably would have fainted out of pure shock and been eaten! Good for you for having better sense then me..haha! |

All i know is my brain said "Shark...must go other way fast!" so it was a quick look, but i think it was a Nurse, which aren't too harmful but it didn't matter to me.
Sounds like you had a very cool trip St. Thomas is soo beautiful!
You will become addicted to wakeboarding once you get comfortable. It is so fun, keep at it and I promise you will wonder why you didn't start earlier, or atleast thats what i wonder |

Laura, A nurse isn't too harmful? I used to volunteer at the zoo and feed the sharks. We had several nurse sharks, I wouldn't want to fall into that tank. |

They aren't that aggressive... i guess thats what i ment. I love the ocean so i don't have a strong fear for its creatures plus i use to study sharks and whales, (as a kid that is). Volunteering at the zoo would be cool! |

**standing up...waving** "hello, my name is ang....er....Wakejunkeygirl....and I am addicted to the ladies lounge." hangs head and walks away
no really Brandi..you'll love it..we have no drama in here..everyone is nice..all of the girls who participate actually ride and have as much passion for it as the next. I have personally made some really good friends from all over the country that , without ladies lounge, I never would have had the chance to meet. there are no 'clicks' in here..and everyones progress no matter how big or small is always recognized and congratulated. so post away little poster...we love pix..we LOVE vids and we love to 'push each other' you won't find a cooler chat board on the net...we've got surfers, skaters..wakers..snowboarders..and everyone is RESPECTFUL of each other...*unlike in that damn general forum*
looking forward to seeing you in action!
