More speed does it for me.
When I hard-charge a roll I'm very progressive and land in the flats.
When I take a slow smooth approach it's more mexi style and W2W.

All you have to do is throw your board away from the boat at the wake. Oh, and stop looking down. Mostly the first though. That's it.

| Lift straight up off the wake and hold that position a bit longer, so you arent using the wake to 'barrell' into the invert. Waiting on it should help you to take it bigger too.

| well i've done backrolls for a year now and have lost their progressive ness. is it that when i "throw" the backroll i'm letting the board go to far away from under me and not close eneough to the boat. so the wake is /\, i'm goofy and i'm letting it too much this way > so it should be more towards the back of the boat? (man that's confusing) or am i just not squaring my hips?

Be careful thinking about releasing back away from the boat, thats a good way accidentally open your hips and take a painful back dive. What I was saying is to not 'throw' it at all, just release high and use the line tension to complete the invert. If you release like the pic below, and keep the handle at your hips, you should get a good cartwheel rotation. The more line tension and the harder the release, the bigger you will take it.

I can't believe no one has said this yet, keep both hands on the handle. Force yourself to do the whole rotation: takeoff, roll, and LANDING all with both hands on the handle. That's what I did to relearn the b-roll the right way. It will also help you learn R2R down the road a lot easier.
Oh yeah, and look up and over your lead shoulder, not down like a front flip on a trampoline.
Good Luck
Later...

yeah i look over my shoulder but i do a mexi roll. i just say a picture of me doing one the other day and the handle position is pure stuff. it looks like it's level with my chin.
can't get out much anymore, fall weather means more wind. man and it's too hard to get my parents to drive.
Great Lakes Rider, your right i found my self taking my back hand off right away. that just might do it.

I have the same problem, got them down first (progressive) but now i am doing the
mexi 'thing'. It looks horrible but i cant seem to change it.
But here also the weather is changing and autumn is coming. So i will probably
have to wait untill next season.
