My boat is 6 weeks old and under warrenty: Just noticed that the engine makes a clicking sound and it speeds up when giving gas to the engine. ANy idea what is causing this and how to fix it? We've put 105hours on the boat in 6 weeks and just had the oil changed ( after the noise started). Hope it's not bad news, but if it is, needs to be serviced. |

ours does the same thing where the drive shaft connects to the prop shaft - it is nothing to worry about. _________________ If you do not like your job, you don't strike....You just go in there everyday and do it really half a$$ed.....Now that's the American way - Homer Simpson. |

Had the same propblem with our 03 Centurion. Not sure as to which boat you have or what year the engine is, but the problem with ours was a manifold seal. We blew 4 of them in like 3 months til they were actually able so solve the prblem. Our engine didn't seal right it was warped or something. Merc had a couple of issues last year with their engines for sure. What would happen for us is that the clicking sound would get louder and louder and it sounded like it was coming from the belts or something. Very noticeable when the ahtch was opened. Boat still ran, but that sound wasn't right at all when you gave it gas.

chaz28o, is a genius, I guess exhast leak too, my 350 mag did exactly the same thing, the gasket wasn't installed properly at the factory and popped out at 20 hrs. Its no big deal to fix & takes about 1/2 hr, take it to the mechanic and they will do it under warranty. _________________ Niiiiiiiiice |

| Was out this morning in the boat, it is a 2004 gekko with a 350hp mercruiser v drive. the click/tick is slow in neutral or idle, but as I give is gas, the ticks speed up, but don't necessarily become louder. I noticed that it is louder on the port side of the boat if that makes any difference. regardless, we've only have the boat 6 weeks, that goodness for warrenties. |

Hey wakeflopper,
Exhaust leak or valve tick...either way, back to the dealer for warranty work!

| Is this something you were hearing with the engine compartment hatch closed or opened. My 04 Merc makes a ticking noise but I can only hear it with the hatch opened. |

I have to agree that its a exhaust leak and all you should have to do is take it in to the dealer. Let them deal with it. _________________ "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy stuff, what a ride!" |

| the noise is actually getting faster with more power, notable with hatch open and closed, and.... I've noticed the last few runs that the power is not there when I lower the throtle. Henceforth,,,,,no boat this weekend, the mercruiser authorized servicer is looking at the engine, fuel injections/exhaust leak are all on the diagnostics schedule. I miss my go go gekko. It's the longest we've been apart in the 6 weeks I've had him.....I thought he would like it when he comes home to some nice kicker speaker and subwoofers..... I love my boat. |

| if your running an i/o there are flappers in the exhaust that make a tick sound at idle and slightly off idle. check the location of the sound before you start hunting for exhaust leaks. my 50 cents worth |
