Not sure what Imovie is like, but I have personally used Pinnacle (in a class) and currently use Adobe Premier. It depends on how Imovie looks, but pinnacle Studio is the entry level one and runs about $100. Premier is the more expensive side, but has a lot more features...It runs about $600.

Personally I like Premier more, because of the other programs that I have used in the past (Flash, photoshop, etc.) For me, Premier really is close to the same setup as those other programs, so the learning curve was less for me.

Imovie is pretty much the same as Windows Movie Maker v2.0, is you want to get a little more techinical go with Pinnacle, but i hate it because its not very stable. If u care to spend a couple days learning how to use a program get Avid Pro Express, Adobe Premier Pro, or Final Cut Pro 4 (Mac).
Peace

go to google and type in "free avid" its a free version of avid express, if you use windows this is pretty much as good as its going to get. if you really like it you can upgrade from like 500-8,000 bucks, avid is the best for pc. its way better than adobe's crap that should not even be called editing software.

What makes Avid so much better than Adobe Premier Pro? I haven't ever had a chance to use it before.

Like garvey i like how it interlaces so well with after affects, encore dvd and photoshop. Also you can do 30-day free trials for all of adobe's software from their website. If you want to you can just keep deleting and downloading them. I have After Affect $1000, Premier Pro $700, encore dvd $500 and photoshop $600-700 all as free trails.

I would put my vote in for Vegas Video 4.0.

Easy to work with and real powerful.

I don't think that's true. I rendered a movie with premiere and tried to burn it with encore. But encore couldn't even transcode the file. It crashed every time. Worthless piece of crap. Premiere isn't that great in my opinion. You have to do a lot of work to do the exact same things you can do with other software.

I've also heard good things about Vegas.

after reading this I downloaded the free version of avid and I must say its by far the easiest to use and has a lot of features. im sure premiere pro and final cut have more features but for your average editing I would recomend avid. One thng that pisses me off about it though is the fact that I cant figure out how to delete old projects. If anyone knows post it.

In my experience, Premier can do more but it takes more effort to get what you want out of it. For most editing projects I just use Pinnacle Studio because its simpler than Premier and does a pretty decent job.

I use Premiere 6.5 at the moment and i think it works great. Easy to use. Can make your own effects and pulling after effects in works great. Im working with encore at the moment. so not sure how that works I will find out in the next couple days when i burn the master copy.

I will probly be going to Avid as soon as i can get some cash to buy it. Have heard great things about avid.

I've been using Priemere and I really like it. It CAN be hard if you don't know what you are doing, and have no help around. I'm using 6.0 and should have pro after the summer. I would say go with premiere.

I've never used Vegas Video, but Vegas Audio was an excellent, powerful, easy to use product when I used it (v2.0, about 3-4 years ago).
