has anyone ever seen a SAN sink, or have you actually sunk one?

nope, no itch...

Malibu only for me, man.

Just a question that we are pondering here at the office today.

I have heard of one coming close, but the owner drove it onto the levee to keep it from going under.

what happened? did he just take a stack of water over the bow? Shocked

I've heard of a stack of older tiges sinking.. haha they are kind of a joke in the UK.

I know a guy that flooded one so only the windsheild was above the water... they towed it in but it sounds like a pretty funny sight.. i'd love to see a load of people sitting on the seats with just their heads and a tower sticking out the water.

I don't think SANs can sink... they have too much foam flotation in them I guess they'd just fill with water and you'd have to empty it.. and fix the water damage.

Anyone have a boat we can test the theory on? Laughing

no, he actually took water on over the transom.
the boat was extremely swamped, he panics, and runs it up on shore to make sure it was'nt going under all of the way. Laughing

I've seen a few Centurions sink like rocks, but have never heard of a SAN going under?? Thats' why I am asking the question if they actually will sink or not.

We're getting mad wind down here. Feels like a damn storm without the rain...

There is a picture of a guy's SAN under water with only the tower sticking out of the water and the tip of the bow at the Mastercraft dealership I work at. I think if there is a good amount of lead in it, it will for sure sink. The one in the picture had nearly 500 lbs of lead in the rear lockers.

out here in eastern long island it can get pretty windy real fast. 2 summers ago we were driving out by montauk in a 30 ft grady white in about a 4 ft chop when we say some coast guard and police boats surrounding a malibu. We went over to see if they needed help and aparantly there were 6 of them on the boat and they got caught out in these waves and it got pretty intense. They were taking white caps over the bow and soon decided that it would b necisarry to pitch the 600 #s of lead in the back of the boat overboard. As many of you know when you stop a boat the bow drops and unfortunatly for these people the bow dropped right under a nice 4 ft wall of water. Within seconds the boat was completely swamped. They never were able to get the back compartment open and therefore there was 600 #s dragging the boat down. We watched as they hooked up a towline to the swamped boat and began to slowly drag it towards shore, unfortunatly they couldnt tow it fast enough to keep it above water and drain it because of the weather and the boat eventually became waterlogged and went under. So ive seen a malibu sink but never a san

I've heard you can't "sink" a SAN - CC packs so much foam into the hull, stringers and deck that even if the boat is completely fully of water - it won't sink. Supposedly cutting it in half will leave two halfs floating in the water. Not sure if any of this is true - but that's what I've heard.....

same with boston whalers, any boat with injection foam would be pretty tough to sink without a huge amount of lead

a whaler is unsinkable! no matter what you do to that thing it just pops back up on the water

Snapped a pic of this other day. They were bailing water out w/buckets, I think it may have been one of the marina's rental boats. I would was going to ask what was going on, however when I went to get my trailer I found my Jeep tire was flat from a damn nail in it, by the time I got done putting the spare on the boat was gone.
