JamesWatts, I've never used that lens, but checking the specs (ED Glass, internal focus) it looks to be a decent lens that's a lot cheaper than Nikon's 17-35/2.8 AF-S.

Nikon's budget line of lenses has a plastic lens mount as well as no ED glass or internal focus. This lens is probably between the cheapo stuff and the professional gear...looks solid.

chaz28o, nope, that's a lens for a Nikon film or digital SLR...won't fit any of the CoolPix series cameras.

if you've got a decent camera store pop in with your camera body and some film. knock off some shots with the test lens and have them develop it. sometimes they'll do it for free, but i've only felt okay with that when it's a place i'm already spending money (b&w supplies, getting things cleaned, etc) because i'm usually getting the lens somewhere else.

ritz camera usually has pretty decent prices; a few bucks more than what shipping would cost but no wait and a place to go to if things go wrong. you can also get them to throw in free stuff if you're good at that.

as for the quality, you can usually figure that out when you pick it up (literally). weight is a reassuring factor with lenses (more glass and metal than plastic), and this looks more like a prosumer lens which should be fine.

EDIT: you know what you're looking for off your test shots yes?
