For those of you who watch the Gravity Games, UPN bought the competion and they eliminated a couple of sports, one of which was wakeboarding(the other was aggressive inline) so i was wondering what was your peoples thoughts on this situation. Personaly i think it doesn't make sense. I mean c'mon they are taking away a sport that is growing a bigger audience every year. _________________ The bigger they are the harder they fall, but the smaller they are the farther they can be thrown

wake_boy, get your facts straight.
Gravity Games were sold from NBC to the Outdoor Life Network in the offseason. Wakeboarding has NOT been eliminated.
Here is an excerpt from a press release sent out recently:
GRAVITY GAMES H20 – ADVANCE MEDIA INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gravity Games H2O 2004, Perth October 2004 - a taste! As part of the build up to the Official Launch of Gravity Games H20 in Perth on August 9 and the event also in Perth from 14–17 October 2004, Octagon Australia today announced some initial details of the event and one of the sports - Wakeboarding.
October 2004 marks when Gravity Games H2O, presented by Vodafone, incorporating the world’s top action sports athletes, will be converging on Perth, West Australia.
Two kilometres from downtown Perth at McCullan Park, floating sliders will transform the Swan River into the equivalent of a floating skate park for the Wakeboarding event featuring the world’s top male and female riders. The field will consist of pre-qualified invitees along side riders progressing through a trials round held on the first day of the event. Entry to the trials is open to all wakeboarders, however the number of entries will be limited.
If the right to be crowned the 2004 Gravity H2O Wakeboard Champion is not enough, the total prize purse for Wakeboarding is AUD $115,000. With the Gravity Games H20 title and substantial prize money up for grabs, riders will be heading to Perth form all over the world to put it all on the line.
Supra will be the exclusive towboat for the Wakeboarding events in Gravity Games H2O as it has been since the Gravity Games Wakeboarding events began in 2000. GM Vortec engines marinised by Indmar will provide the power for Supra’s line of wakeboard towboats. |

Id have to agree with viva la mike. That sucks. The sport is growing so rapidly that it makes no sence to take something like that off the gravity games. In a simple world that's BULLSH$T! _________________ www.jetpilot.com |

wake_boy, sorry to be rough with that. I realized that the press release I have a copy of hasn't been around for long and so not many people have seen it.
It really was kind of pointless to have wakeboarding included at the Gravity Games in Cleveland, as the water was absolutely terrible...to the point that none of the riders could ride anywhere close to their ability.
By taking it to Australia, it's better for the riding, and also allows for other watersports to be part of it, such as kiteboarding. |

When you consider the extremely minimal airtime they gave to wakeboarding at X Games X, I'm not surprised wakeboarding has been dropped from the Gravity Games "MAIN" roster. I am stoked to read about Gravity Games H2O. Just my luck though, I move here from Perth and they decide to hold this event there! It's a great venue. _________________ Now that I seen that on this forum, that is the shiznite! |
