Hi! I have a discussion with a friend regarding weight in a ski nautique 196. He says that if I place some fat sacs with about 1000 lbs in the boat, it will damage the engine. Is that true?

First this should go in the boat forum, second, no harm will be done. Granted the engine will have to work harder because of the excess weight and you gas milage will drop quite a bit, but it won't harm the engine.

I usually put up to 2,000lbs in my 196 and have done so since '98 with no problems. He just doesn't want to wakeboard with his boat.

Any time you add any weight at all of any sort to any engine propelled object, it will put extra stress on the engine. Will 1000 lbs. put enough stress on it to warrent not doing it? That's up to you. I would say surely not. But for the guy that wants his engine to last forever....maybe yes?
