What does Spyware do to your computer when you have it and how do you know if you have it? I downloaded spybot search and destroy but havent used it yet. I was just wondering what the effects of spyware is and if Spybot S&D works. _________________ Liquid Force

S&D is a must have!!
You also want Adaware and Spyware Killer
Spyware Killer works together with S&D (or both by themselves)
Adaware works by it's self
Spyware installs it's self onto your computer, from sites that you visit
Spyware records information from your computer, and sends it to..........?
It slows your internet connection down
And in worse cases, it's an agent to ID theft
You want to get the above, and run them dang near daily |

Once you get if off your computer does it stay off? And by ID theft do you mean if you put in a credit card number they could figure it out? _________________ Liquid Force

The ones that S&D takes care of, don't come back
Spykiller will also not let ones identified come back
Adaware seems to remove the same ones (usually tracking cookies)
Yes - ID = Information about you, including credit card numbers
S&D lists them by groups, and you will see those types listed, and will know if it removes them
You have to constantly check for updates on all three, Ad-aware updates the most out of the three |

I just did Ad-aware and it found 4 files. Im using the trial so I hope it deleted them. I might buy this program it looks good. I really like the idea of the kind of auto-protect without a real norton firewall that always blocks things. _________________ Liquid Force

I've been using the free version for along time
If you checked the boxes when you clicked next (quarntine) then they're gone
You only had 4 eh? You don't surf the web much, lol |

Yeah, i know the feeling, i was looking for a registration code....
But back on topic, my personal favorite is Webroot Spysweeper, it gets all my adaware, spyware, and advertising cookies. Never had any problems with it at all. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

All of my spyware is classified under data miners are they really bad or just pop-up adware? It says risk is low. _________________ Liquid Force

Thanks Jumalian that program worked great. It picked up some more stuff the other programs forgot including a "System monitor" with a high risk I think it was called. Once its deleted will it come back without going to that website? _________________ Liquid Force

snowkid45, I had those problems initially, and sometimes I still do. For me, I either do one of two things 1) I open up the program and reset the security settings to default. This will usually allow me to access the internet or 2) Restart my computer and it works fine. Finally, if that doesnt work for me I'll just turn the firewall off while I'm surfing the internet.
Also, as far as Spy Sweeper goes, the only way something will come back is if you go to the place you got it from. Say for example you get spyware when you visit website X. Well if you dont visit website X again, the spyware wont come back. However, if you do visit website X again Spy Sweeper wont recognize and stop the program from returning, and you will have to scan again to remove it. _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

C&P from lavasoft:
Åsarp, Monday, August 9, 2004
Lavasoft announces the launch of Ad-Aware SE
- a new generation of Anti Spyware solution
Lavasoft currently distributes its anti Spyware application Ad-Aware to over 80 million home and
corporate users worldwide including 3000 partners in over 120 countries.
Lavasoft started distributing Ad-Aware in 1999. 1825 days have passed since Lavasoft released its
first anti Spyware application which has precipitated a wave of liberation that our users and
customers have, and continue to, enjoy.
Ad-Aware has since been developed into a state of the art application that can keep pace with the
increasingly sophisticated threats we face.
In the ensuing debate, users welcomed the advances made by Lavasoft during the past years in their
further development of Ad-Aware. The stark and disturbing evidence has only shown us to well how
system owners are suffering because of intrusive Spyware, with too many instances of users being
subjected to extreme content and denied the control over their own systems or networks.
Lavasoft has supported the privacy community from the very beginning and will continue to lead the
way in taking the steps necessary to keep PCs and workstations safe and secure.
There is a category of Ad-Aware users that will always demand even more performance. We share
their passion, so we created Ad-Aware SE, an innovative new approach – The New Generation.
Lavasoft, with its Ad-Aware technology, is widely known for delivering comprehensive and secure
performance. Together with several newly developed techniques and our newly developed scanning
technology Ad-Aware SE delivers heretofore unseen performance on both PCs and workstations. Just
like in the past, where Lavasoft was one of the first to offer a comprehensive anti Spyware
solution, we're proud to be the first again to offer a new generation, ground-breaking anti
Spyware solution.
We would like to expand further on that statement and have therefore highlighted the key areas we
have worked on during the past year to again further improve and ensure the protection of end-user
desktops all the way up to the corporate and enterprise environment.
