| hey, I just started trying scarecrows, and i'm nowhere close. When i cut in toeside and try to pop off the wake, it seem like i just fly headfirst into the middle of the wake and i dont have any rotation. can anyone help me on the right edging and popping? thanks |

| If anything, make sure you ride all the way up the wake. Scarecrow is kind of hard to get it at first, but once you get it , its easy. Try to really get that trip at the top of the wake , which will give you better pop |

I've said it many times before, so I'll say it again. Learn a straight front roll first. That will teach you the proper rotation of the move. Once you get your front roll solid, you'll get the scarecrow within your first two tries, guaranteed...and it will look better too.
So, for tips on that, here goes:
Edge in quicker than for your normal ts wake to wake jump. Just before the wake, back all the way off your edge and stick your hips up, so your hips absorb all the pop from the wake. That will pop you up and start your flip for you. From there, just tuck your head down, try to over-rotate so you land on edge. It's a fun move. |

toothpick and ben haha i landed a scarecrow before i landed my ts front i've landed one ts front and thats it...i am going to work on it though so i can stick my elephant that i am working on...or the other way around if i stick my elephant then do a ts front
scarecrow, at the top of the wake (left foot forward this is) throw down your back shoulder quick and at the same time, toss your front shoulder back, but it's not like a bs 180 or anything but it helps get the 180 around....hold on with both hands also and i move my hands with the handle up to my sholders during the rotation |

I'd have to agree with you there. I learned the roll first, and didn't even have it completely dialed in, and still landed the scarecrow within 3 attempts. |

| yea i would learn the frontroll first cuz if you dont then it will be a lot harder to learn the frontroll after you have already landed the scarecrow. i have seen people have problems with the frontroll because they tried scarecrows first. |

wakeguy2008, haha cough matt cough
Scarecrow is a LOT more natural. I suppose just try both and whatever works is good. Everyone is different. I learned scarecrow, then landed ts front second or third try. Both a piece of cake as long as you focus on what you are suppose to do. |

I'm not sayn what toothpick, said is wrong cuz he gives great advice and in theory it all makes sense. Until you actually try one you will not know what YOUR tendencies are. For the same reason some people spin BS better than FS it's all about the riders tendencies. Again for the same reason some people do the Tantrum before the HS backroll, they go with what works for them and their tendencies.
I'm from the OLD SCHOOL, go with what works!
Letting go with one hand to try and spot my landing between my legs to land on my TS edge riding away from the wake was not happening.
I had a much easier time holding on with two hands, spotting the landing as I opened up to the boat and riding away on my HS edge. SCARECROW.

That's because it's not a BS 180, it's a FRONT SIDE 180 in Scarecrow. And yes, toothpick, is right. Save yourself a lot of trouble and just learn the Frontroll first. It will help you tremendously in the long run.
Later... |

Great lakes rider I think yer 2 bitz is bs. I agree with the dawg go for what works.. If yer racking yer nutz like I did on front rolls everytime and did elephants anyways while doing them.. then go for the crow its way easier and helps you really cause you or I learned it by flipping up frist not smelling my pit like someone of you say... I think that comes from riding behind a boat with a small wake so you can make it around. I say front roll late 180.. Large progressive cut in.. pop up, huck over liek a front roll or flip and bring the rope to the other hip.. though two hands for that I think is more forgiving. _________________ I wakebaord, wakeskate,do anythign stupid, hurt others and have fun doign it. |

hey, yeah i havent gotten a chance to get out and try it again cuz... well listen to my story(and its true):
I just set up a new pylon and went out on the lake, so i was boarding for about an hour and I had thrown at least 5 or 6 tantrums and so on the last one i threw it but i landed funny. Well i ended up kneeing myself in the chin and knocked myself out, also giving my self 4 stitches so since then i havent had a chance (except the day i went tubing like 2 days after the accident, i just couldnt stay off the water...) so thats my story, i'll be at it again sunday |

learn the front roll first as it will give you the technique of learing how to cut and pop and rotate correctly.
IF your having trouble skiing away after many sessions then definately move on to a scarecrow. some try all season to ride away from front rolls. you can always go back afterwards. |
