We are in the market to buy a new boat. Our son lives to wakeboard and therefore we want a boat with a great wake AND good for family boating! Please tell me what kind (brands) of boat to look at and what not to look at. We saw the new Yamaha boats, any comments?
Thanks so much for any help you can give us.

yamaha boats?? isn't that a glorified jetski?
try looking into some of the larger malibu, and mastercraft boats.

Well if your son lives to wakeboard and that is what the boat is intended for avoid the words Yamaha and Sea Doo.
What kind of a budget do you have in mind?
Are you looking New or Used?
Is the boat going to be 100% Wakeboard or will other watersports be pulled with this boat?
How many people would normally join you out on the boat?
Is towing distance a factor?

If your looking for comfort and spacealso I'd go with Tige or Malibu. IMO, out of all boats they are most comfy and spacious. Don't get me wrong, MC and Nautiques are sick boats with sick wakes but I wasn't impressed with comfort. The wake is awesome though. If you want to do more than wakeboarding you can go with a Direct Drive. Another somewhat important factor is the dealer. Make sure their quality is exceptable. The main thing though is to go around and demo each and bring your whole family along.

the new moomba xlv is cheaper than most , has a good wake, and sits 16 people.
but i like the wake on nautiques and malibus. i dont think there is any better. its a personal prefrence really.

Hyperash, how do you get 55K? just curious.
The top boats out there are Supra, Moomba, Mastercraft, Nautique, Malibu, Tige, Sanger, MB Sports, Centurion.
there are some smaller companies as well.

Nautique all the way if you can swing it...
Wakeboard editions are the super air and pro air.
Malibu wakesetters are also nice.
The new MB-52 is also a sweet boat.
However, these are all high end wakeboard boats.
Budget makes a huge difference.

| I'm not sure what qualifies as family boating, but if someone wants to slalom behind it, then get a direct drive.

| i would go with mastercraft. when we bought our boat we demoed both malibus and mastercrafts. we ended up getting an x-star. if your son likes wakeboarding any of the x-series v-drives have awesome wakes. i would not recommend a direct drive because that hump in the middle of the boat woudl prolly get very annoying (i have only ridden in a direct drive boat 1 time tho). thats my opinion. good luck in finding a boat

brewcrew, Assess your needs, research, test drive, negotiate, buy.
We already know that your kid likes to wakeboard and you need a family oriented boat. Think about how many people you bring with you normally. Also account for their gear (bags, jackets, etc). You may realize you will need some size (21' plus, 95" beam plus) for comfort and Storage. If that's the case look into what all the mfg's have to offer. Test drive all of them and negotiate.
Supra:
Sunsport V
Launch SSV
Launch
Launch SS24V
Moomba:
Mobius XLV
Mastercraft:
Maristar 210/X10
Maristar 230/X30
Correct Craft (Nautique):
226
211
etc, etc, etc....
Other mfgs: Tige, Malibu, Centurion, MB, Calabria, Sanger.
How your dealer will service you after the sale is key.
Good luck

| To tell you the truth, if you arent looking for something real expensive..I have a 180 sea ray, but i put fat sacs and a tower on it...I can do 180's, almost 360's and tantrums..and its a great family boat...the only thing is, if your son gets real good he is gonna want a huge wake..meaning a nicer boat, and if i was you i would go with the Natique, its the best there is to me...thats what we are gonna get soon i think..but thats my opinion...

wbfl89, did you have fun at the Relentless premier. I heard you'd have your tantrums if you'd hold onto the handle, so hold on!
Sorry to get off track. We got a nautique, solid boat...

Supra launch is a good family boat and throws a huge wake if weighted. The malibu wakesetter vlx and lsv are v drives and can hold more people.
