OK so I'm using PS 7 to edit my pictures, I change the levels or what ever to get the colors looking how I want them. But when I view them using windows explorer the colors are slightly differant!? All of them look a little more dark and more blue. Could this be something to do with my monitor not being calibrated or something else? |

Do you work in Adobe RGB colour space? If so, you need to convert them to SRGB before you save them. Just check next time you edit them. It shouldn't be because of calibration, because you are seeing a different colour with the same monitor.
I'll appologise for any spelling errors, because I'm quite drunk right now. That poor bottle of Jim Beam... It never had a chance. _________________ Download In-Transit today for only $5 - Winner of Transworld Video Part of the Year, Riders Choice Awards Video of the Year

Go to edit, color settings, then under working spaces in the RGB selection area select sRGB. |

In PS CS it's image > mode > convert to profile. The pictures look somewhat richer on the web if shown in the srgb space. Some programs like Explorer may convert them for you. The only reason you may want to convert ahead of time is so you can see what they will look like. The best reason to calibrate your monitor is so the screen matches your output to everyone and everything else. I finally got my printer output to match my screen when I started calibrating my monitor. _________________ Rich Dykmans |

Explorer is undoubtedly changing the profile of your picture somehow. Are you using a Mac or PC? _________________ Rich Dykmans |

OK I figured out how to Keep the pictures the same, I just right clicked on the desktop and went to,
properties
settings
advanced
color managment
then added a new color profile (sRGB color space profile).
Now this fixes the problem, but can anyone tell me what this does? |

That's why I asked, the Mac does color mgt automatically. sRGB is a colorspace and acts kind of like a language base that allows the color mgt "translator" to understand the color differences between differenct devices. I don't fully understand it all myself but if you stick with photoshop all of your photos will be color managed and should look the same (provided you're using devices that allow color mgt.) _________________ Rich Dykmans |
