1999 super sport question

i'm looking to buy a perticular super sport nautique. the boat is upgraded everything, practically a super air. tower,ballast,upgraded engine

i've got 2 questions.
the first is i noticed below the swim platform there seems to be missing somthing/taken off. There are a bunch of screws attached to the boat. these screws are over both exhaust flaps. its hard to explain but i have no idea what would have been there. does anyone knw what might have been there? and is that anything important?

the second thing i noticed is that the prop had a bit of a ding on the corner of one blade. Is this going to effect the performance of the boat? and will it be expensive to fix?

Can't help you with the 1st question, but the prop thing I can. My dad hit a rather large stick in our Nautique and it put a small ding in one of the blades. The boat was still driveable, but there was noticable vibration. I'm not totally sure, but that ding in the prop will probably do the same thing, could you test drive it and find out though? A new prop will probably cost you around $400. Either myself or my dad actually damaged the new prop several weeks ago and my dad sent the original damaged one back to the manufacturer and got it fixed for around $200. Hope this helps...

steve-o, this is just a guess but the previous owner could have had a wake tank on there. It was a tank that you could mount under your swim platform. I would ask the owner. On my Sport Nautique the platform is molded in fiberglass so if I wanted to put on a wake tank I would have to screw it into my transom because I don't have the bolts that most teak decks have.

The only problem that the ding should cause is vibration. If you take it for a test drive and it starts vibrating you'll have to get it buffed out. I don't think it's that expensive. My prop has some ripples on one of the blades and I took it in to a prop repaire place and the guy said if I didn't have any vibration I didn't need to get it buffed out.

Get a compression test done and I would have a mechanic look at it.

Just a stab in the dark on the first questions might be an old wake plate or exhaust tips????

My educated guess for the first question.

Underneath the platform around the lifting rings is a plastic cup that is screwed into the hull (carbon monoxide protection). The previous owner may have removed the cups around the lifting rings in order to be able to tie the hull down to the trailer. Hope I am right and helpful.

I think Lucky might be spot on regarding the "cups" that go over the lift rings. A '99 should actually only have a single exhaust port/flap.

Oh, and I've replaced those rear "cups" and they aren't expensive. They just happen to be the first thing to hit if I back my boat too far back into the garage! Mr. Green

forsure. thats exactly what i was talking about. thanks for the help. i'm hoping these won't cause any leaks into the hull considering the screws aren't thight to the hull

check if the boat has chimes in the bottom of the boat? On the 99's Mapple came up with the twc hull, has two chime in the bottom of the boat. It suppose to help with the slalom wake at speeds. 99 had the pro air, this boat was the direct drive version of the sport with this hull, it also had rakes up front? I dont know if it will make a difference in wakes for boarding, hopefully someone has one and can tell us. the hull was discontinued in 2000
