I have a rail set up at home next a windowsill so I can use the windowsill to support myself when learning boardslides. I can do them easily like this, but as soon as I try to do a proper boardslide everything goes wrong. What should I do.

How do you mean everything goes wrong? You slip back you lose balance? Well you need to approach with your weight nutruel and parallel to the rail. I like to have my front foot right over the front bolts and my toes haning over the edge, try doing them slower then eventually go faster.

Like sometimes I fall forwards, sometimes I fall backwards, sometimes I land off balance sideways, sometimes I hit the rail as I ollie up. I'ts currently about 1/2 a metre high and I can do it like a pro if I hold on to the windowsill, but even when I lower it or try it over grass I just can't get it.

Well, the blance issues may have to do with your approach, keep your balance as neutruel as possible. And obviously your just ollying to close to the bar when you hit it. Can you do board slides on smaller rails? 1/2 is pretty high for just starting out.

I used to be able to them on little rails a few inches high, but that was about six months ago. I guess I just need to practice, but I don't see how I can do them perfectly on a high rail holding onto something and have to learn how to do them all over again properly.

Well the wall gives you balance when you on the rail, so your a bit more secure. I would recommend learning them on smaller flat bars first, then wrok your way up.

Don't worry, i've figured out what I was doing wrong. I had all my weight over my back foot as I ollied and I used the wall to get myself back above the board. I've lowered the rail and made it angle downwards so I have to practice leaning forwards.
