My kids - 70lbs - has been riding an 140 for a couple of years now. He's okay, pretty stable, but he's ready to progress into some basic tricks.

What size board should he be riding?

Hello...

I bought my daughter a board... she is 8 & weighs about 55lbs. I bought her a 119, that goes up to 85lbs.

Fair enough, but I'm cheap, and thinking he can keep riding it. Or will a smaller board make it easier for him to start doing tricks, etc? I think I know the answer - I guess it's on to ebay.

Yea my son is 10 and probably about 80ish pounds. His board is the Hyperlite Motive 118? It's perfect for him. Being new within the past month he's starting to try 360's on it.

Ask your 10 year old if he wants to sell his 140. I'm 195lbs and could probably use it.

Good Luck.....

...........so your on to ebay? Just yesterday I saw the Hyperlite Motive's on ebay. This one particular guy had every size of them at a descent price.

Here's the link...
http://search.ebay.com/hyperlite-motive_W0QQsokeywordredirectZ1QQfromZR8

Look at where the guy has Combo's. $299. But then I see a board 119cm for a buy it now at $139. w/o bindings.

Regarding my earlier post......now that I think of it my son's size is 128cm. Seems perfect.

id go with a motive 128 or some othre board in that same size range. its a little big for him but will give plenty of room to grow. ive ridden the board and weigh 150.

Still haven't found anything yet - it seems the more I learn, the less I know!

I'll check out the Motives on ebay - I like the 128 idea, as it seems like it'll give him some room to grow. He carves great on the 140 (he's a good snowboarder), so I feel if i go too small, like 124, it'll be to squirrly.

Since you posted this last week......I did double check my 10 year olds motive. It is 128. He's about 85lbs ish. Learned basically this year. He too is good at snowboarding and skateboarding. That board seems perfect. Although he never tried anything else. He has a ball with it and can handle it perfectly. I can slow down to 15mph to increase wake and he doesn't sink as would with a smaller board. But 18mph seems perfect for him. Doesn't seem squirly on him either.
