i just started trying raleys, everytime i try one i do the nastiest raley, i've seen it on tape and it's pretty big... but then i do a front flip on the way down and crash... I've tried to not do a front flip but i dont know how not to.... it looks pretty cool with a front flip attached but it's not really what i was going for.... any help?? is this a common problem when learning a raley?

this will only happen if the handle pops out of your hand. Just hold on tighter and once your feet extend behind you get that handle back down. If you are falling and it is spinning you to the right like a ugly s-bend then you have to much weight on the front foot, or you are not looking at the tower or pole, or are pulling to hard with one hand or not to center of your hips

wakeboarder_360, covered it pretty well.

I can't land raleys yet but whenever i try one i always do a front flip or some odd rotation if i let go of the rope. If i keep it in my hands then i stay like a raley, and if i pull it in i start coming back. I still need to work on pulling it back in, because i always screw it up in some way.

Make sure you're keeping your head up. If you duck your head you will continue your roation and do a flip. Keep your head up to stabalize your lift so you can yank the handle back down.

Learn Raleys on wakeskates first.

Much easier on the body

learn it on the tramp, get comfortable with the feeling of extending out then cut like a mo-fo and land way out into the flats... just dont let go and look at the tower
but ur cut is the key, dont try to throw ur legs out, they will just go out if ur progressive edge is right

ya im having some problems with raleys too. i do the front flip thing but it seems to help if i put more weight on my front foot. i can bring it back under me when i do this. but when i put more weight on the front foot i dont get as high and dont have enough room to bring it under. i think i just have to find the medium. but my ? is is it possible to land the wierd front flip thing comin out of a raley? i think it would be pretty sick

Does a wakeskate really help? I have never tried one on it, i just might if it helps that much. Like MichealB said, it doesnt hurt the body as much... i have been trying on my wakeboard and gosh it hurts... does doing one on a wakeskate feel just like a wakeboard one?

Yes it really helps. You can't cut as hard, but you can get used to the snap and the feel of bringing it back.

I umm....third that!

I went out last thursday, didnt feel like putting my board on, so I jumped out with the wakeskate, after a bit of riding, I was like hell, Ill give this raley a try. I have been trying before, but it's not a fun wreck. Well, I did to with the wakeskate, and hit it perfect, pulled on the handle, brought my feet under me, and landed on my feet. I then was pumped as hell, cause it is almost like riding a bike, once you get it, it's easy. Well I put the wakeboard on, First one I landed on the board, but wrecked, second one took a hard fall. I was tired so I gave up. Then saturday, with the help of some pretty ladies in the boat...I finally landed it. Now I have about 6 under my belt, and am getting pretty consistent. You just have to have that pull down feeling down fromt he wakeskate, and it just clicks. I used to get horizontal and bail, but now I just give it a nice pull, and the landings don't even hurt!

TRY WITH THE WAKESKATE....ITS THE ONLY WAY! hahah

don't let your upper body go foward, that way the rope youn't be tight and you will flip and crash. you need to let your feet go back, that way you'll keep the rope tight. all you need is a wide progressive cut and let your feet back.

have fun

you can check my gallery to see a vid of it

I wouldn't (and didn't) try it on a wakeskate first. All your going to do is crack your balls if your feet get pointed down - and if they do, you might as well have a board strapped on to land with. If you land on your head, it won't hurt any more or less if you have a board on. The best way to learn the feel is to do it on a trampoline with the rope tied to a tree.

The secret to sticking a raley is to forget about all the pain you'll be in when you come up short or hit an inconsistency on the takeoff.

A few things to remember:
1. tighten your bindings as tight as possible
2. Cut as hard as possible from pretty far out
3. as soon as you leave the wake, look directly up the rope to the tower and focus on it for a split second
4. Spot your landing and then suck the impact
5. Piss your pants because you just stuck your first raley and you're stoked

im currently workin on doing an s-bend consistantly and before i dialed my h/s fronts i was doin half of a front roll and half s-bends so i had trouble as well separating fronts and raileys. but i als agree with the wakeskate idea, for i did that b4 i tried them on a wakeboard. you dont need a whole lot of speed for a railey however it is easier to learn them with an accelerated run at the wake. make sure you are crouched so you can pop off the wake, it helps to make your edge get more progressive as you approach the wake. if your hips are in front of your shoulders they will naturally fall behind you as you get airborne, i just spot the boat until i get the snap that comes shortly after my body gets fully extended. after the snap i spot my landing and pull the handle to my lead hip. it gets easier everytime but learning new tricks takes mostly visualization i think, well that and a little athletic ability. raileys are simple really

HAHAHA hilarious story, My friend learned how to wakeboard and as soon as he could stay up he tried a wake jump, he did a fashion air to raley to front flip and landed on his butt on the second wake. I think it would be possible, Someone thats good should try it, when i can throw a raley then i might think about it, if anybody ever lands it, the name of it is the Mark Flip. lol Rolling Eyes Its on video as the opening shot of my movie that i plan to get out by the end of the season.
