|
|
I'm currently at a wall(or at least i feel like it)
The one thing I've never been able to grasp in wakeboarding is how doing a new trick for the first time for me feels completely uncomfortable.
you know how when your off the water, at work or whatever, and you say to yourself "backroll( or any new trick ) attempt today," hell yeah!!!
then your actually behind the boat, looking at that beautiful wake(lucky 02 malibu vlx owner) and you can't for the life of yourself imagine what it would be like in the air to throw a br...
Do I just huck it and close my eyes?
Am I just being a Taco Bell Chalupa? Are you supposed to feel that intimidated by a trick?
Don't get me wrong I'm decent, I can throw consistent 180s both ways and TS and HS w2ks all the time, so I do feel somewhat comfortable out there... but right now I just cant see myself doing the trick when I'm actually out there behind the boat...
Any mental tips or advice guys/gals? |

I think you just got to try and go for it. Once youve gone for it once then the next time itl get a bit easier. I know what your talking about though I was just learning tantrums and i hurt myself on the first couple of times and id spend ages cutting out toeside and then just cutting over the wake because i bottled it. I just go over and over in my head and if im at work by the time i get to the pond im dying to try em.
Good luck m8 |

| What has worked for me is picturing myself doing the move and kind of convincing my brain that I already know how to do the move. So, even though you don't know how to do it yet, just come in and try the move just how you've seen other people do it, and expect to land it. I've actually landed some moves first try that way. |

For me it was spinning BLIND, now the BS180 landing blind (wrapped) is my favorite trick.
I just said one day, this set is BS all the way down the lake. after a few good falls and a set or two later I started landing them. You need to force yourself to do the trick and when you are ready you will know it. Just warn the driver before hand that he will be doing a lot of turning around, I know my guys love to see someone land a new trick no matter how many tries it takes them, so it's all good on that end for us.
The backroll was the same thing, 5 tries all one set and landed the 5th one.
I never stick with one trick for too long either, I'll give it a few tries and if it's a no go, I'll move onto something else and just go back to it another day. _________________ PEACE

xposed,
I agree with J Dogg. The other thing to add is to make sure you are solid on all the prerequisite tricks first. For example, don't be trying a roll to revert until you have a solid back roll and can easily land your fs 180's big and out in the flats. Basically, don't skip any steps... It'll be quicker in the long run!
For a backroll, there aren't many prereq's... Just a good strong progressive edge up through the top of the wake, and then kick it. You'll try one (and possibly land on your head) and say, "Gee... That didn't hurt at all... I'll try some more". And after your second or third you will be getting about 3/4 of the way around.
Also, Keep the rope in close, and don't let go... Without it you will stop rotating and won't make it around.
It also helps to have someone in the boat who can do them, so they know what to look for.

Nah back rolls are painless. I have yet to get hurt bad on one. I got rocked on one but I can't remember why. So long as you throw the spin correctly, it doesn't matter how bad you do it. _________________ Wakeboard/Waterski/Kneeboard/Ride Random Objects

you'll know when youre ready....i tried my first 360 the same day i landed my first 180. Wasnt even close, i wasnt nearly good enough to even think about trying one. BUt like 2 weeks ago i got bored and insanely consistent on everything i could do and said to myself "alright, its time to move on". and now, 2 weeks later, I land about 4 out of 5 360's and just throw them constantly on each of my runs, i love doing them and i cant wait to get fully consistant and do the same thing with a ts frontroll(pretty close to that too). You will know when you are ready to hit that next milestone, and when you are, you will be surprised as to how fast you'll land it.Oh, and by the way, when i was ready to start trying 3's again, i landed it on my 5th try. Progression, kinda like a latter, you dont want to skip a step. _________________ "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them"

| A good tip for starting inverts and spins is to slow the boat down and just try it over one wake. It takes alot of the fear factor out of it and keeps you from beating yourself to death while learning. On your next set slow down to about 18 mph cut out like 10 feet cut in and try the backroll or 360 across one wake, once you land a few speed the boat up and take it w2w. . |
