To learn to time the double up requires practice and a half decent driver.
its probably best if you dont go far outside the wake for your first few goes, maybe only 5-10 feet out. That way you dont have as far to cut in and there is a bit less chance for error, so it should be easier to time the d-up.
I would suggest that you coast out before the boat goes through the rollers, as the boat is going through the rollers, you want to initiate a slow turn into the double up. If you are going to hit the second roller remember to keep your knees soft so you dont get messed up by the first roller. Another important thing to remember is that you dont need a lot of speed when hitting doubleups, especcially when you are learning. Let the double up do the work and just cruise into it with a similar cut you would use for wake to wake.
dont get frustrated if you miss it on your first couple of goes, you will find that after 2-3 you will have a lot greater idea to timing both your cut out and your cut in. |

I agree 100% you don't need to hard charge it and you don't need to start way out.
I usually go out about 8 feet or so (75ft rope) right when the boat squares up to head for the rollers. I hang out there for a few looking for the first set of small rollers. I start my approach at this point looking for the second d-up. I wait for the first bit of rollers before I even cut in so I'm either hitting the second one or the third. When you hit the third one clean the first time you will wet your panties. _________________ PEACE

Second is the best/easiest one IMO-
The first one is harder to time for some reason (for me any way) as you have no real indication of when to start the cut in. I use the first roller as that guide to start in for the second one and it works like a charm.
smlparksguy133, Like that one eh...??? _________________ PEACE

you can also watch the hull of the boat to easily see when the boat is breaking the rollers.. this will also give you a little more heads up, and as you will always be riding at the same length, consistency will be easy to meet. I would GUESS when the hull breaks the second roller start cutting, but you will know when once you start to get the feel of them. _________________ Hitting the backrolls this year.. |

I must be cutting outside too far then, because I think I see it( the 2nd d-up) and then I go right between themlike I was riding on smooth water. I caught the 2nd one once at a slow cut, and I shot straight up and didn't come close to w2w. It was still way cool. I can't wait till I get the timing down. _________________

Yeah work on the timing like JDOGG mentioned, stay close and just keep an eye on them- its usually pretty flat if you come up short on the landing so dont worry about casing the 2nd wake.
One other thing about the timing-- if you have to pump into the swell right before the wake, you timed it right-- it should spike up right in front of you. Dig your heels in like a champ, even sqeeze the line, and release just like a wake jump. |

It's like everyone else said.......
Like hitting a baseball, keep your eyes on the ball when you are learning to hit.....
Keep your eyes on the double up that you choose to hit, you'll drift right in to where you want to go. Don't take your eyes off of it... _________________ Don't let go of the rope |
