hey this is gonna sound really stupid but how do you wrap up a rope properly at the end of a session without getting it tangled. I just bought a new rope and don't want it 2 get f~#ked up. i've tried many different ways but it always tangles when i throw it out |

if your gonna ride again just let it pile up on the floor as your bringing it in the leave the handle on the back of the boat for the next rider. |

hold the loop in your left hand with the rope facing toward you, use your right hand with the bottom of your hand away from you to slide out to near an arm's length, bring your right hand out then in (over your left hand with the bottom of your right hand facing up), grab with left, release with right, repeat. reverse if you're left handed.
usually, you want to bring it in from the water like this because it keeps the line from getting twisted, which is how they get tangled. use your fingers to keep the line from twisting; it doesnt have to be perfect, but keep it at a minimum.
when the handle gets closer your line is going to have all the twist in it, so hold the line up and let the handle unwind the line.
get a strap to store it if one didn't come with it. |

Use a electrical cord reel and wind it up. No twists at all. It will also let you line dry easily if you don't wind it tight. It does take up some more room, but you can stack them up. _________________ Original Boarder from 1983

Hey C omplete W acko B oarder,
It's not a stupid question at all...everyone should know how to correctly coil line, be it three strand or Spectra - doesn't matter. Basically you give each loop sort of a half twist as you lay it into the rest of the coil. |

Looping on a pile on the floor and throwing the rope to the back is good for between sets but when you're wrapping up for the day I've found I get less tangles if I wrap it around my arm (elbow to palm). Then the next time you throw it out there have someone feed the line out. |

if your rope gets really twisted, you can hang on to the handle and drag the rest of it behind the boat for a little ways and it will straighten it out and will be super easy to pull in without twists.
Other than that i just wind mine up like i do a hose of a drop cord. On thing that does help is when you are coiling it up twist the rope inward so that it gets the twist out and keeps it nice and straight. _________________ www.hyperlite.com
