It's an upside-down wing that pulls the transom of the boat down, having a similar effect to that of ballast. It's only available on one line of boats, but I forget which. Search the boats and accessories forum and you'll find pictures and a better explaination.
Edit: I should specify it's an underwater wing, not one in the air.

yes it is only available on malibu boats. it supposedly adds a better lip to the wake and an equivalent of 1000 lbs of ballast. seems like a good addition to a boat to tune the wake so thats why we ordered one on our new malibu. _________________ Jon

can you take it off or make it so it doesnt add the weight cuz 1000lbs constantly would be hard on the motor i think _________________ Chicks dig a tan |

You can swing it up out of the water when you don't want to use it. |

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attaching wedge for the first time to a brand new Malibu vlx. Nothing like taking off the shrink wrap for the first time on a brand new boat. 04 Wedge looks like it is gonna work nice and smooth. too bad it wasn't my boat! _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

Heres a little trick that we learnt with our wedge, if you want a bigger wake put more people in the front of the boat. It may sound nuts but take a look at the wedge. When the boat is running in the water the wedge is about 45 degrees downwards, if you add more weight in the back you force the back down making the wedge run straight in the water. That aint gonna do anything. But if you put people in the front of the boat you make the wedge go to a 65-85 angle. Trust me it works, pull up to the beach, talk to two fat chicks (they'll be greatful that some hotshot with a nice boat is talking to them) get 'em to hop in the front of the boat and enjoy your super sexy wake. From experience to you! _________________ Pain Heals, Chicks dig scars, but Glory... That lasts forever |

Right at the end of last summer we got our wedge caught on a sunken stump. It didnt fully rip off but it did warp enough that we had to totally take it off before we could go above 10 mph. I've seen pics of guys who have had their whole transom ripped off. But I think that would only happen if you are running in shallow water and hit a rock or something big. But even with ours we wrestled with a warped piece of metal in 4 foot deep water for an hour. And it kinda ruined our riding for the rest of the week . Luccily it was the last week of the season. And I cant wait to try out the new one. _________________ Pain Heals, Chicks dig scars, but Glory... That lasts forever |

Do a search, there are several instances of the wedge ripping holes in the boat. Since the wedge is directly behind the prop and rutter, you'd tear your prop and rutter of before even hitting the wedge. I had a demo in both an XTi and a VLX, and the wedge does make a nice wake. IMHO however, I just don't think any type of drag hardware is a good idea. For starts, people like me forget to put them up! _________________ Will TNT Watersports continue the tradition of high Malibu prices in Nashville?

I've got a Wakesetter with the wedge on it, and I can testify for Archie's comment. We put most of our weight in the front, and with the wedge in the back, it works out pretty nicely. I'm used to riding with the wedge and I've noticed boats that are just weighted have much more rampy wakes, the wedge makes wakes alot steeper, or lippier |
