I'm looking to purchase a board. I'm a beginner with a little bit of experience and would like to get my own board to get going. I am looking at both Hyperlite and Liquid Force. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

First thing is don't limit yourself by company. What size are you ? Height? Wieght?
What do you ride behind? Second thing is demo anything you want. Thats the true and only way to find out.

As you know Hyperlite and Liquid Force stand out as the top brands of boards. Personly I ride a Liquid Force Helix 136 (the finless model), and i love it. I am 5'9"-5'10" what you need to discover is you riding style, and your riding goals. My board is an advaced board and I learded on it and won't ride anything else. I can hit sliders as well as keep an awsome edge. Some people don't like my board because you loose stability when not on an edge, and landings if not executed right can be slippery.

Like Itch said to help you we need you height and weight, and you rideing style would be nice too.

Hey Joks,

itch hit it right on the head...all the board makers publish weight/height/ suggested board length charts but they are just that, suggestions...rocker type and degree, fin size and "feel" are something you're going to have to figure out by demo'ing boards (if you can)...alotta shops do this and apply the rent towards an eventual purchase....go out and meet people and ride their boards see what you think...there's alotta info here that you can get to with the SEARCH function...the Feb. issue of WakeBoarding has a pretty good compilation of boards and bindings but once again - it's just a chart...but it does give you the stats on alotta boards.

good luck

Wes

Thanks guys. I'm 6'1, 255, and ski behind a Malibu Sunsetter, or a Mastercraft. I didn't know if there were any recos on rocker or edge or anything like that. I've seen the size charts, and know I need a longer board, but beyond that I'll have to just try some boards and see what I like I guess. I've tried shorter boards and had no luck with them whatsoever.

look at all boards 140+ and see which ones you like out of those. try to demo, rent, borrow as many boards as possible.

I would suggest a CWB Sol. They're fairly inexpensive and good learner board.

A great user-friendly all-around board is the Hyperlite Belmont. It's an '03 board, so you can find them for cheap nowadays. It'll last you way beyond the beginner level. I'm still using mine and I love it.

I agree with everyone that's responded that demoing is your best bet to find the perfect board for you. A good board/binding option in addition to those mentioned would be a Liquid Force Trip 143 with the new Alpha bindings. It's a really good all-around board for beginners on up. The nice thing is that it's available as a package for $399. Let me know if you have any questions.

I'll second Miss Jade's reccomendation. The Belmont is very stable, forgiving and predictable in terms of pop, spin, landings IMO. The HL Premier also might be a good board for you to test as well.

The best thing to do is demo. We can all suggest this board and that board, but in actuality, what may work for us, may not work for you.

So, make a list of boards that people suggest. Go to your local shop and demo. Most shops apply what you spend on demos towards the purchase of a new board.

Some boards to add to your list:

'04 DoubleUP Nelson 141
'04 DoubleUP Antidote 140
'04 DoubleUP Summit 142

'04 Blindside McKee 141
'04 Blindside Assassin 142

'04 Hyperlite Era 140

'04 Liquid Force Balance 143

'04 CWB Absolute 141

I would have to suggest a HL premier or a cwb absolute. a friend of mine just got the absolute, his riding looks stable and gets nice air too. But a liquid force trip 140 something isnt a bad choice, good for the big boys, good luck
