Just got a O'neil Vapor. I like the way it fits and feels, I just haven't had it on in the water yet.
Before that had a Jet Pilot molded vest. I liked it, but was looking for something different. I feel I will like the O'neil better. |

Go with a USCGA vest! If you're broke like me, then you should hunt around, i got mine at a sams club for $25 or so last year. |

My brother has a bare one that is paper thing and I've tried it once and after a few seconds of treading water, I got back in the boat and grabbed a CGA jacket. |

depends on brands...
some like JP dont really float at all IMO... the JP vests ive worn they floated my head above the water...
my oneil Non cga vapor floats my head well out of the water, and if i got KO'ed im pretty confident that it would keep me afloat... _________________ wakeboards

I don't know... having spent a lifetime on the water and a good deal of it making a living in the marine industry and having sailed in every ocean and lots of lakes, there's a few things I've learned I prolly won't be scimping on...life vests are one of those things...
Oh, BTW, every boat I've gone out on, everyone has come back...everytime, sadly there are those who can't make that claim - I take safety somewhat seriously.
I'm sure there are very good non-CGA vests

I think it depends on how good of a swimmer you are, and how strong of a swimmer you are. if you dont feel like you are strong swimmer, or you dont thing you could handle treading water like that, i suggest going with the CGA vests to help you keep afloat. I personally am a strong swimmer, and Water Polo has taught me to tread water well, so i dont really feel to much need for a vest for floatation. most of the time if i use ones, its to keep a bit warmer, or just use it as a rash gaurd almost. But i would go with Neoprene too, great stuff. _________________ Religion. The poor man's alternative to expensive sports and sporting events. - Dave W |

How well do you tread water when you're knocked out though?
I guess I shouldn't really talk though since I have a Vapor too. |

Here in KY we're supposed to wear a USCG vest...though I have yet to find a law that states specifically that you are to wear a USCG vest while skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, whatever. The only laws I've read are that you are to wear one on a PWC and have at least enough in your boat for every person in it... But I just bought a vapor too...guess i'll play the idiot & somehow forget my SSN so they can't write me up...(this actually happened to me when i was like 14... ).
