what's the difference
everybody says different things! one says continious rocker has a horizontal pop, other a vertical, other smooth landings, other sketchy, other says continious is easier to time the pop.
can somebody please tell me the difference, ones and for all?
thank you! |

from my experience and knowledge of the two....
You can simply look at a board and tell whether it is continous or 3-stage
A three stage has more of an abrupt pop and the continous is more "flowing" i think. _________________

Ok here's what i understand. A three stage is better because it lands better and gets a lot more pop. I have a continuous and i get plenty of pop, but i've never ridden a three stage. So all I've heard people on this site say is go with three stage. Oh BTW continuous are usually a lot cheaper too. _________________

You cant say one is better than the other it is all personal opinion. Murray rides a continuos rocker board, do you think he doesnt get enough pop? Or ride the board he likes the best? The only way to tell if you like a board is to try it, most shops let you demo a board for cheap, its really worth it.
In general a 3 stage will pop you more vertical, a continuous will send you longer with a softer landing. Continuous are more forgiving, 3 stage you have to hit the wake more consistently.
Dont forget there are also combo boards like the Liquid Force Evo. |

noneya is right, there is only a "better" one for certain people (based on personal preference)
If you look at a 3-stage it'll look more like a skateboard with concave.
A continuous has a smoother look to it.
Thats what i was told |

HeyVictor,
Can you get a copy of the Feb. issue of WakeBoarding? There's an explanation of rocker as well as how different wake shapes can affect the degree and type of rocker. Alotta product reviews are included and each board is rated in terms of rocker type and degree and wake shape and size...check it out.
In general, continuous will have a smoother landing as the flat spot on a 3-stage board can "pound" just like a flat bottom boat whereas the continuous curve sort of pushes the water out of the way rather than slapping it....

For what they look like a 3-stage has a more flat middle area then turn up more at the ends and a contunious board is a smooth curve throughout. _________________ www.krookedminds.com

a three stage will give you an abrubt kick straight up in the air. its often described as a "bucking" pop. a continuous has a tendency to send you more out into the flats. dont think this means you cant get high tho cuz as said before look at murray. the continues just is smoother and doesnt buck you as much. if you want to look at the board and tell if its continuous or three stage lie it on the floor. a continuous will rock back and forth if pressure is applied to the tip or tail. a three stage doesnt it more rises the oppisite end up. |

i have ridden both, the main difference is the way the board pops you
3 stage - steep kick more high
cont. - smooth pop more far
but remember the board does not make you better, your technique does, so find the style of riding that best works for you, and select a board that works best for the way you ride. |

hyperlife18, i sort of have to disagree on u w/ what u said about the board not making u better. Having the right equipment helps u out a lot. If u get a board u can't flow w/ as good u won't do as good. Just my 2 cents. _________________

numbfoot, I know, but what i meant to say was that you are not going to all of a sudden become pro by having a nice board, if you are a first timer it won't matter that much on the board that you use, that's all i ment to say, but i agree, nicer equipment does help you progress faster. |

I have a Blinside five o (continuous) and a Byerly (3-stage). I do get more pop with the Byerly but you have to hit the wake just right. The Blindside is way more consistant and generally easier to ride. I myself am going to work on getting the Byerly dialed in cause I love getting booted striaght up off the wake. I'll I can say is demo a few different boards and figure out what you like best. _________________ ......and one time at wakeboard camp. Come on people say something original. |
