Yeah I live in Palm Desert, California and I am just getting into wakeboarding. My cousin is pro tho, and we wakeboard here in the desert.
He lives in La Quinta, Cali. The town next door to mine. Anyway i was wondering how I should cross the wake, I am afraid that if I try to go over the wake I will lose my posistion and my balance and biff out, I have only gone twice, but I can only get up and turn. So any help would be great, and I was wondering what are good magazines to read on wakeboarding? We wakeboard @ Shadow Lake(a private, gated community with homes right on the lake shore of a 1 mile long lake), in Indio, Cali. The town next door to La Quinta, Cali. Anyway thanx for ur help, and have a good New Year. Peace.

Sh@d0w L@ke Rid@, best way would be to ride with your cousin and have him show you first hand if you can.

If you're just crossing the wakes, try keeping a bit of an edge and absorb the wake with your knees. A lot of beginners I see turn at the wake and then ease up, especially on their toeside cut and when they ease up it throws them off balance because their board is off edge. If you have to fall a few times trying it don't worry, it will come.

If you look in Trick Tips you might find it under crossing the wake or wake to wake jumps. ontrider has a good suggestion, just remember to point your hip in the direction that you want to go, toeside or heelside and don't look down. We all take falls so don't get intimidated or frustrated.

Sh@d0w L@ke Rid@, the very best advice that i can think to give ANYONE that has access to riding with pros is to ride with them. the best way to become a better rider is to always surround yourself with better riders, that way you can watch them as they ride, then try to apply their techniques to your riding. more importantly, when you mess up and fall, you can ask questions about what you did wrong when they come to pick you up.
good luck.

Or u can pick up an instructional video like Detention or Higher Learning and watch them. Then pick up Jeremy Kovac's book called "Wake Physics" and take it with u on the boat! Good luck!

Re: mag question: The main mag is "wakeboarding magazine" and then there is Alliance wakeboard too. You should be able to find their websites.

If I remember correctly, wakephysics is pretty much sequence photos of how to do tricks with descriptions and tips. So basically like trick tips you'd get in WBM.

I would recommend higher education. I believe it gets a little more in depth than detention, however, detention is still a classic. Get both.

Wake Pyhsics is a good book to have in the boat. It gives you general information regarding tricks and from my experience, has been helpful, especially if you don't have a DVD player in your boat.

I found that the Detention video was more entertaining than educational and the tricks are cramed into a small amount of time. I would recommend the Higher Education video.

Between Higher Education, Wake Physics, and your cousin, you should be doing well by the end of summer.
