|

For those of you who have sold a late model boat in the last year or two, what worked best?
I’ve had three boats to sell and will have sold each using a different method. Since the season is basically over, I know now is a tough time to sell.
I had a ’99 FourWinns Horizon 170 outboard and stumbled across a local boat broker in Orlando who bought it for cash. I didn’t have much money in the boat, got what I wanted, and the broker worked the deal through the MasterCraft dealer so I saved taxes on a leftover ’01 X-9.
Last year I sold the X-9 through the MasterCraft classifieds, although I also had ads on Boat Trader and FlipSell. It just happened that the buyer responded to the MasterCraft web site ad. Again, I worked the deal through my new Malibu dealer and saved taxes again.
Now my ’03 VLX is for sale. I’m getting out of boating for a year or two to pursue graduate school. I have again placed an ad on Boattraderonline.com. I also have postings on the major wakeboard sites and FlipSell.
Has anyone had any success anywhere else? |

Dude, do you ride with Sandy aka Sandbag? I haven't seen that guy since I moved to S. Fla. a year and a half ago. If you know him, tell him David with the back/white x-star says hey! Hopefully he'll remember me...
Oh, and good luck selling that VLX, sounds like you're doing all the right things. _________________ "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." Benjamin Franklin

Mr. Nut,
Yeah, you could say I ride with Sandy, only he really hasn't ridden much this season due to injury. Here's the whole story:

We surfed quite a bit early in the summer, but Sandy has been busy in the home improvement area these days.
I'll tell him you said hi! _________________ SOLD - 2003 Wakesetter VLX - 80 hours!!! |

I had a boat for sale last year, listed it in October and didn't sell it until April. I was totally purterbed by the ignorance of people.
I got lowballed by so many people it wasn't even funny, many sight unseen other than the pics I had listed.
I tried to sell it online via Boattrader as well as skiboat.com and didn't get anything other than the lowballers. I then listed it in the hard copy Boat Trader and I was able to sell it within a few months.
Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to sell it until spring most people don't want to have to store for the cold months.

Among the other websites you list it on (boattrader, flipsell, etc.), list it on www.floridasportsman.com. It's free and is pretty popular, at least in Florida. It can't hurt. I just sold a 16' Cobia outboard in less than a week on it, of course it was an '86 and I was asking less than $3k, but still. Good luck! |
