I did it I finally got up... this was my third attempt.. I am 31 years young and just started wakeboarding... what a rush to finally stand up on the wake. We just got a new tige and love it .. It seamed to make it easier to get up , my only thing was that after about 10seconds I let go out of excitement , then couldn't get back up can't wait till the weekend to try again.. |

Congratulations!! Isn't it a rush!
Keep trying. Here are a couple of things I did to learn. I shortened the rope so that the pole pulled me up better. I put my weight on my back foot and it caused the board to naturally pivot on it's own. I kept my butt on my heals and my head up, looking right over the board. Arms straight. Also, I found that at the beginning I got up much better off one side of the boat as opposed to the back. Maybe that would help you too (for me it is the left side looking at the back of the boat since I dominantly ride left foot forward). If you've already heard all of this, please ignore it, I don't want to offend. . .

Always keep your board between you and the boat; by using your lower body strength to help get you out of the water, instead of trying muscle yourself up with the upper body....
Less stress on the lower back |

You go girl You are younger than I am but I still say take your time, find your own pace. Everyone encourages me to try bigger, badder, better, but I don't care. I'm working on keeping my back straight, the rope near my waist, and relaxing and enjoying. I can carve easily and have good control doing it. I can ollie (while my son on the board with me, too). I get up every time (everyone says I'm the easiest rider to pull up because even if they screw up, I pop out of the water). I can also go across both wakes and back, ride with my little guy on the board. I really master one thing then go to the next. When I was younger, it was different, I bounced back easier. I had a concussion for three days in return for trying to progress too fast (no fun!!), I'm learning to relax, take it easy and get used to the water. (and buying a helmet ). I'm progressing slowly, but I'm progressing.
Don't stagnate with no progression, but I think it's important to go at your own pace so long as you are going out there and having fun! That's the important thing. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing.
I think it is so great that you are up almost everytime now. Woohoo! (Look you have your own cheering section) _________________ "It is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." -- Mark Twain

kool!! congrats! good to see other 31-year youngs wakein'!
I just started myself a little over 2 months ago...about 2/1/2 took me about just at 2 months to consistently clear the wake. I hurt my leg pretty bad on a w2w fall and so last weekend it forced me to do surface trix...I can ride in fakie, but could never 180 back around to regular. well since i was injured, i used the whole labor day for surface trix..180's, grinds..fakie ...anyway, now i have the flu and am in bed for at least another week. * *and watch now all the rain will clear up* !!! anyway, i just finished putting together some footage of some of my good w2w's and as soon as it is done, i will post it on here for you ladies to check out. my form went from bad to good after watching myself on tape,,you see if u are hunched over, can see how and why you are wrecking *wether its catching an edge or sliding out*
yeah, like leslisa said, do it in your own time, i tend to push my self so hard, sometimes i forget that i have only been wakeboarding for less than 3 months!! I'll watch videos of other girls and say"there is no reason i cant do that...why am i not doing THAT?' and he'll remind me "uhhh, baby, you have only been wakeboarding for 3 months, your progression is great..." I guess sometimes i just expect a little more outta myself.
Oh, Leslisa, does your helmet really help with surface crashes? I didnt know how that would work, if iwater may get in there and drag you under? did it help with after-headaches
have fun!!! |

I don't have a helmet yet. I'm looking into getting one and have been asking around. I've had mild concussions twice. After the second one (where I was nauseous for 3 days and had a horrible headache), I've decided to slow down. I can ride all year around basically anyway since I"m in Florida. It's gonna have to be pretty d*mn cold for me not to get into the water . That's why I live here anyway, for the sun and the fun.
I can't do nearly the tricks you can. I can jump one wake, ollie, sometimes turn 180, edge, carve, and ride with my 5 yo on the board (which is a new experience in itself considering our weight ratio). I'm pretty inflexible though and I'm working on that. Seems the more flexible I am, the more relaxed I am.
As soon as I get the new helmet, I'll let you know how it works out. I do love my impact vest, even though it's not USCG approved. When I hit really hard this weekend (one of the screws for my binding came off), I had the wind knocked out of me, but I was expecting a much harder impact and I didn't get it. It really helped. I think newbies should definately use USCG approved, but personally I like the chest protection better. _________________ "It is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." -- Mark Twain

| leslisa-that is so cool that you can ride with your son. I've been afraid to try because I don't want a bad experience to scare him off of the whole boardin thing. What is the trick, how hard is it? |

31 here too, slowly resisting change! - riding with a kid is not hard you just have to have good control of the board and a strong back (ouch), I wouldn't suggest it unless you have passed the faceplanting stage of riding......
congrats on the ride, - don't worry about being able to clear the wake in a month or two - or comparing your progress to anothers.... just have fun - learn to cross the wakes and get comfy.....
oh there is a pic in my gallery of my daughter and I when she was 5, riding on my shoulders, we would get up regular, then she would climb up to my shoulders..... she's always pushed everything to the extreme!!!! |

Hey Souls i know what your felling.... ....you'll get it soon enough...i promise....i've tried soooo many times before but then i realized its easier to just chilax...lol....and just think about keeping your heals to your booty and as soon as the boat pulls you turn the board strait and keep your weight on your back leg......and if it helps i cried sooo many times out of frustration....i started boarding this year in April and haven't stoped yet....after u got the getting up part down you'll find thats the easiest thing.......but its all good you'll get it tho babe _________________ ........everything in moderation and you are who your friends are..... -Shaun Murray |
