What the hell, we looked at the hull of our '98 prostar and there are two cracks about 18 inches long on both sides of the boat, pretty much under the driver and passenger seat and I mean the bottom not the sides. Does the stringer enf there? They were not there a month ago. Our boat is babied and has only like 250 hours but looks brand new. It only had three people in it the last few times we've been out. Does anyone know how Mastercraft handles this type of thing? Aren't the hulls warrantied for life?

Stephan- SUcks that has happened to your boat, hope things are going well for you in school. Hopefully we can ride in the future again. I'm going to start working on a 360.

The hulls are covered for life. Call your dealer or local rep and let them know. You shouldn't have any problem.

Stephan -

If your dealer has any integrity, they will go to bat for you, especially if you bought the boat new. If they blow you off, don' t let them get away with it.

Did you/Do you have any wieght in the boat - ballasts, bags, lead or anything? I wonder if this ever has anything to do with hull crack horror stories.

Good luck man -

Welcome to the world of Mastercrap, Evil or Very Mad

Seriously though, I hope they do honor everything for you. Is the crack big enough to actually leak through, or is it just a stress fracture? Good luck in your ventures.

Chad

Is it possible you did not have it trailered or hoisted correctly? Or are they "spider" cracks in the gel coat?

I'd have serious doubts about any fixes to a bad hull.

me too leggester! i also agree that it could have easily been done when the boat was being driven onto the trailer. especially if the fenderwells are not covered properly.

Nope, like I said we baby the boat and everything is put in top order, we re-padded the trailer bunks at the beginning of summer. Actually it's still warm where we keep the boat and we usually walk it onto the trailer. These are not spider cracks, these are full on longitudinal fractures. That you can put your fingertips into, the boat stayed afloat before but it doesn't look like they cracked all the way through. The boat only pulled waterskiers the few days before we noticed it. It was bought from a dealer in So-cal and as of yet we have had nothing but BAD dealing with them. We think we're gonna wok with corporate HQ as well as through the dealer. This is not something we want to take a year, we ride all year round and it's gonna start getting really smooth.

It isn't caused by the stringers, they run from transom to bow. Your problem sounds like an air void. This is when the laminate doesn't get completely squeezed out. It will always separate an air void first. If I were you, I would not let them bs you into a gelcoat repair. It will continously crack like a house that has a bad foundation. You would be repairing it every year. Sounds like time for a new boat. Of course, they probably won't do it for you. You will have to have the dealer try and fix the problem first. If it cracks again, then you have recourse with the company. Because then you know that it will be a structure problem that cannot be fixed since the problem is under the stringers.
If I were you, I wouldn't drive it at speeds above 15 mph. It could crack in half and sink. I have seen a boat a my lake do that. It folded up like a milk carton once the guy hit 30 mph.

if these cracks are that bad like you said, where you can put your finger tips in the cracks you should immediatley take the boat to the dealer, it could be a lot of different things going on down there. Follow your stringers and see where they line up in perspective to the cracks. Post some photos. how wide are the cracks are they 1mm wide or 1/2 inch?

well i meant to say that your fingernails catch on the cracks. You can see a lengthwise crack and when you run your finger across it your nail totally catches on it. They are not deep but you can totally tell where the fiberglass just broke. We are going to try and deal with the dealer first but if their past performance is of any indication, they will tell us that we don't know how to operate a boat and that they will not even fix the thing. Thos guys are cool as hell until you've picked up your boat and then they are dicks. Hopefully M-Crafts new motto "Held to a higher standard" is legit and we can actually hold them to this high standard they speak of. Thanks for all your responses. I liked that boat too, tear, sniffle Sad .

What does this post have to do with wakeboarding. Please be responsible and post boat threads in the Boats and Accessories forum.

those sound like gel coat cracks, that kind of repair is easy. If the fiberglass was separated and water was squirting through from the outside in, that would be different. your boats 6 years old, of course its going to have some issues. Dont go off acting like your Mastercraft has had massive hull failure, it can be fixed and your boat will be fine.

Hollywood please stfu, thanks.

Please be responsible and put some damn clothes on.

And for that matter I've seen your prolific comments about Leslie Kent with an immense package. What the hell does that have to do with wakeboarding? It's just has to do with your jealousy of her piece, looks like she's got something on ya.

PS- Leslie Kent is a Goddess and by no means do I think she has a junk.

Oh yeah and it did not sound like gel coat cracks when it happened, we were going across a pontoon boat wake and it sounded like a rifle went off, a very sharp crack. We didn't know what the hell happened and by chance looked at the hull. It hasn't had massive hull failure yet, but Jesus are Hulls supposed to be cracking going over wakes, and when is it going to have this hull failure cuz it seems obvious that the hull has been compromised. I can't wait to pull someone and just be waiting for the big one to come along and have the thing get this water you speak of squirting through. It's not something I want to have to anticipate when I take little kids out for a day at the lake. Well i guess I'm an A$$ for being a little concerned. And I'm going off cuz i'm crazy. I can't wait to try and sell the thing, yes that's the engine with only 200 hours on it, yep synthetic always, oh yeah and have you checked out the cracks in the bottom that might bust through at anytime? No, let me point those out for you. Evil or Very Mad

ok, i will apologize, But you never mentioned anything about the cracking rifle sound and the wake and etc., thats not fair you only gave 50% of the story.I was simply trying to calm you down over two little gel cracks. Now that I have more of the story you may freak out. And yes if Mastercraft should check into the problem if you meet the warranty criteria. Dont wait though, its better to do without in the winter than in the summer. Good Luck

I was replying to an already in progress thread. What does you telling me to "stfu" have to do with wakeboarding?

PS - I already admitted my jealousy of her "a junk".

No Hollywood, you're the guy who get his jollies off telling people what to do. Aside from that you've been registered on this site for like 8 days and you've already posted let's see here, 58 times. By your profile it looks like you've got an average of over 8 posts a day, I on the other hand have done about one per day. So who's getting their jollies as far off as possible? Looks like your "jolly" might not be able to keep up this pace. Besides, how about you just let people do as they want, it's not your place to tell me where to put my personal posts. We(those of us who have been here longer than 8 days) all know that very few people look at the Boat Talk post, and for this situation I wanted to get a response from as many people as possible. Again I reiterate, STFU! Thank you. This post has been pacified. Mr. Green

Hollywood, click on your profile, it will tell the average of post per day rounded to the nearest hundredths(that's .00, or two places to the right of the decimal) in case your math tutoring hasn't worked out. It's not the tutoring that helped, it was all about opening my eyes Idea I hope spiritual enlightenment was attained. Ontheawater, the boat resides at the lake house quite a few hours away, so digi pics are being made available this weekend. I'll sling 'em up, don't sweat it. Peace.

The guy at MC Corporate that you need to talk to is Ron Hill.
He'll make sure it gets fixed.
Sounds like a freak situation - I've never heard of an MC busting open like that.
The last owner could have ran it aground for all you know (although I've seen them come out golden when even that happens!).
Good luck.

The last owner was us. We bought it new from the factory and had it shipped out to our specs. This boat has never touched the ground, only the trailer. We are always sure to anchor it in at least three feet of water. I appreciate the name, we will definately pursue through that, if it comes to it. I just think it's kinda funny that they have their new motto is "Held to a higher standard", because you know that we are definately going to try and hold them to this high standard they speak of. It was good timing for them to come out with that. Smile What really sucks is that we totally like the boat, loaded that thing throws a sick wake and empty my dad can still ski. Nothing against Mastercraft as a boat, cuz honestly all the BS aside they are the front runner, and their boats are the reason. I don't know how they can get clients to justify the costs but somehow they do. I just hope they all don't break...
