Its finally done!! Very Happy

Took it down the river to see how it floats this arvo. It Works! what a relief.

Just a couple of little problems. Got a bit too much polystyrene in it so its a bit high and tippy in the water. Gonna slice the sheets to half thickness and see how it goes. Anything else to make it a bit more stable? Its not gonna roll or anything just pushes over a fair bit when pushed, feels like it might spit off to the side when hit. Got anchors for each corner.

Other than that gotta put the ply on the sides an go it Very Happy

What does everyone think?

NICE slider, you may want to add sum weight to the base of the slider in order to keep the center of gravity low. If you do this you might not want slice those polysterene sheets or whatever in half

yeah man i'd just add wieght to that thing. i'd also think about closing up the sides.

Looks sweet, I put some panels on the side of mine so I wouldnt get tangled up it on a fall.

I just dont get all the people asking for plans for sliders, theres a ton of posts on here with pics and diagrams. but every time someone starts a new post someone else will ask for the plans, gauranteed. These things are not that hard to build, grab some lumber and hammer and just do it!

get some small ropes tied to 4 corners of the sliders with some kind of weight tied to it... short enough not to toutch the gound underwater... that should give it more balance... and I'm with skobi1 on that one to... get some panels not to get tangled up in it on a fall... but in general it's a really nice job... congrats...

I would Make the ropes long enough so that the touch the ground.Thats what me and my friends did and it worked good.

I'm definately putting plywood sheeting down the sides, I'm not going anywhere near that thing on a board until it has that!

Slaytwebeling- sorry champ, no plans, just sort of sketched it out and worked everything out as I went Sad

Public-Enemy- its a bit of a mission but yeah, gonna have to take it in and out again when we go. We put a bit of effort into it and don't want to go down one day and find its gone. We also ride a few different spots. Its not really that bad I guess it only weights about 70kg so two of us got it on the roof alright.

As for rules about having the thing in the water... The official rule is that in the swan river a slider that big is considered a boat and an obstruction to other boats so it has to be surveyed and registered and insured. But depends which water police you get, with mates sliders some have told us get it out, others have pulled up and watched.

you have to tie the slider to at least 2 anchors to get it from moving... 4 is ideal but 2 is okay... and the tie up 4 short ropes with weight at the end to get it stabilized... trust me, it's better than just putting some weight on the existing slider

How wide is it in total? If its 1200mm you wont need weights, We have one very simular but taller and it sits just fine, the main problem is the wake off the boat rocking it and anchor it with three anchors. Nice job though its goood to see more people are building them instead of waiting for others.

Thanks WakeMeUp my dads a boat man so I got 3 spare anchors to play with. I'm thinking one at the very front point and maybe one off each back corner, still not sure, gonna have a play around with it tomorrow. Also just filled up 4 buckets with concrete today at work to drop off each corner to try and stabalise it.

pjdave- its only about 800 wide at the bottom. I wanted to keep it as narrow as possible to minimise contact with the plywood sides when falling off. This is our first one so there should be plenty of stacks.

I know what you mean about waiting for others, for ages everyone was like "yeah lets build a slider for this summer" but nobody ever did so I thought I might as well have a bash, I was actually surprised how easy it was Smile

give me some feed back if it worked or not... buckets of concrete are a good idea... anything that add some weight to each corner and as low as you can will stabilize it for sure... play around with the 3 anchors and see what's best... good luck man...

Well, finally hit it yesterday Very Happy

After nearly sinking the thing Mad

towing it to an out of the way spot everything turned out fine.

I cut the foam to half the thickness and now its stable as. Didn't need all the weights I made or anything. Had trouble getting the anchors to set in the silty bottom so all it took was a bucket of concrete on the bottom at each end and it stayed put just fine.

The first few hits were a bit sketchy, I didn't think the upramp bit would have so much kick and nearly flew over the whole thing first hit. Funniest part of the day was some guy off another boat had a shot while we were on the beach, on some old board with a 2" fin got the fin stuck between the two pipes at water level, board stopped dead and he got flung half way down the slider, tore the fin right out the board. Laughing

hey Veddo heres some stuff weve built in brisbane. The funbox and kicker are both used at the x games in sydney, we donated the full rainbow to the local cable park, the flamed slider(crackwhore as we know it) was stolen and is down on the gold coast and the small one(the snake) was smashed apart by an dick in our ski club( typical gay trick skier) cant find any pics of our single pipe slider.

how far down does that flame slider sit down in the water. I'd like to build one like that (do you think that would be a good first timer? or should i go with full rainbow?). And i was wondering, did you just bend the pipe and bolt it down? Would it be easier to just cut it and make a joint?

The flame slider sits about 50mm deep in the water we have extension pieces for the front. This was the first slider I built in 2000, none of us had hit anything, the front was a little steep for 23mph. We bent the pipe using a oxy set and heating it, the pipe is heavy duty telecom pipe it was bolted through the top but we have since found making a hole in the side with a hole saw is the way to go. I would stay with the half rainbow it is easier to learn more tricks off, like blind 180s so on.
