|
|
| I'm after some help on nailing a HS backroll. I've been attempting this trick for 3-4 weeks now and can get the take-off and rotation OK. But when I land there is a real hard pull on the handle and I loose it every time. I think this could be due to the fact that when I land the board direction is at a 90 degree angle to the wake. I've tried not cutting in quite so hard but still seem to land in the same position and loose the handle. Has anyone else had this problem ?? Does it sound like the problem is the angle when I land or is it something else ?? (thanks for any help) |

Your assumption about the board being too open is a possibility, kind of a tough habit to shake if you are doing it consistently, try to get it on video and see what your body is doing in the air. Or you could be landing to heel heavy or butt checking, the line can feel like 1000lbs if that happens. It should be a very fluent motion from takeoff to landing.
As far as how to shake it, try to force your head around to spot your landing earlier, look over your lead shoulder and down towards the water to get your bearings as soon as possible. Another thing you have to do is keep the handle tight to your body with both hands, you could be forcing it a little too much with your rear hand or letting it out a little, that can cause you to open up too. Also if you are getting enough pop, there is no need to really squat down to absorb the landing, just try to settle down on the transition of the 2nd wake.
One last piece of advice that helps me-- try them early in your set, not at the end, you will get the best attempts when you have strength and energy. |

sounds to me like you might have the handle centered between your hips causing you to be pulled into a position that is perpendicular to the boat. try to keep the handle closer to your front hip, this will help you land going more with the boat. _________________ Sports LTD |

Jim and David are pretty much right. Keep the handle into your front hip if you can and spot your landing coming around

get your nose over your board it sounds weird but if forces you to land standing up, as you come into the cut, have your head more forward then normal _________________ They know what is what but they dono what is what they just strut. |

| You may also be letting the handle get away from you. You will need video or pics to figure it out most likely. If you don't keep the handle in at your waist then it will generally get pulled out of your hands. |

I used to hve the same problem, it sounds like everyone is on the right track to helping you, but what worked for is is 1/2 way through the rotation release the handle with your back hand, and you should land in a more "land friendly" angle.
Worked for me, just gotta concentrate on letting go. _________________ I have gone to great lengths to expand my threshold for pain. |

You usually land in the same position you take off. I would try to ride up the wake more, it sounds like you are leaning to far back and either coming off edge a bit or not riding all the way up the wake....
Another trick to help feel the wake boot you in the air, start in closer to the wake you will have less speed and this will require you to keep on that progressive edge all the way up the wake... Most people start out too far and either ease up at the wake or hold the same speed right through. Both can work but for starting out I have found being closer to the wake helps keep the speed down and make people edge harder as they get closer....
I do them slightly mexi style, mainly cuz I never really leave the wake at 90, I'm more like 80 to 85 degree's and the board shoots up and back a bit.... they look super floaty when I'm riding good and can be taken to revert easier IMO... _________________ PEACE

| I had the same problem a few months ago. The problem I had was all in the take off, you have to let the wake do the flip for you. |
