well... I have heard that the crashed w/ the backroll aren't that bad, especially compared to the 360 crashes. So lets hear your stories _________________ Go big, or don't go at all |

| Kicked out of control off a 2up, made the mistake of freezign up and bracing for a fall instead of trying to force the rest of the rotation, back dive from way up there, bruised a rib, couldnt breathe right or turn my head for about 4 days. Good times. |

| I have a huge bruise on the my whole upper leg, from slapping it on the water twice from not gettting a good enough rotation, but on the ones where i clip my nose fo the board on the water, those don't hurt at all. And this bruise doesnt really hurt that much either, just for about 10 minutes. All it did was stop me from trying another one for the rest of the day, but im going out this weekend and trying some more! YEAH!! |

| Ok as of yesterday I think I have a new worst. I have developed this awful habit of butt checking on big wake jumps, I dont know why I am leaning away from the line but apparently I am. So I throw a w2w backroll, come down leaning too far back, I know I will butt check but plan on a quick recovery, I land on the board but for some god-awful reason my butt check turned in to a series of ball-skips. SMACK SMACK SMACK SMACK four good times then I finally popped back up. It hurt SOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD. |

alrighty... i tried a backroll for the first time and i landed on my feet so i was feeling pretty confident. So i cut out side for my second attempt and i went off the wake to early and i came down side wayz and my front edge dug in and it was right at the transition of my wake so i fell down past the flats and my face smaked the water so hard. i will show you guys video. it looks painful. _________________ Summer is ending and will soon die... Last June while attempting a backroll, I came down on the board with my rear leg stiff. Upon hitting the water my knee hyperextended tearing my ACL and my MCL and bruising the top of my femur at the knee joint.
I began riding again this past April. _________________ "So tell me, what's the price to pay for glory?" |

last weekend I under rotated and landed on my side. It wasn't a hard fall by any means but still gave me a concussion and a ruptured ear drum.

1) Elbow to knee (and vice-versa).
2) Rupture eardrum.
3) Fall with arm through handle (in front -> nearly break arm, in back -> nearly dislocate shoulder) |

I had tried a 3/4 times and fell couple times... and I was a bit scared. Now even more so as I don't wanna have to stay off work.
Finally, the feeling is just not so nice... I love doing grabs... the feeling is great but when I have to try the backrolls, I just freeze up and the feeling is just nothing but fear... just not too enjoyable for me. I am never someone who is good at inverts but I do want to land one by next summer... I wonder how I should proceed. I don't wanna have any ruptured ear drum or torn ACL for sure. It's not worth it. I wanna ride safe while performing tricks in a controlled manner. But then again, I know this is an X GAME so I am kindda torn in between trying new tricks and worrying about injuries. _________________ http://www.wakepics.com/member/eugeneka

I tried it about 6 times with no real hard falls except one that slapped me in the face, yanked my arm so that I could hardly move it and almost diplaced a rib... Oh and also, my front foot got out but not my back one...
I just put back my board after that and I tried again It wasnt that bad seriously... It hurted more after my wakeboarding stes than during them... I guess it's the adrenaline! _________________ Now even tough I know there's NO one in here that lives anywhere near Montréal, if you ever feel like riding, just pm/e-mail/msn/whatever else me |

| When i half-ass it and don't edge all the way through the wake i end up under rotating it just enuf that when i land i catch my edge and the board wips me around onto my back giving me the worst whiplash. I did that three times in one day and i couldn't move my neck for the next 2 days. |

i haven't had a nasty fall trying a backroll (knock on wood) and i've always got all the way around just not stayed on my feet. I don't know if thats odd or not but i can do double backflips and 2-1/2 frontflips on divingboards and stuff so i think that has helped me out in learning invert tricks. I got the spinning down just can't ride it away thats what ticks me off. _________________ http://www.vimeo.com/tjrlake123 |

When you edge through the top of the wake, do you mean that you never flatten your board at the top of the wake to stand tall?
So literally, when you stand tall to pop, you would be standing tall using your heel edge. _________________ http://www.wakepics.com/member/eugeneka

I haven't broken any bones or torn anything, but I have knocked myself unconscious twice trying to grab my backroll Stalefish. Landed blind by accident and backplanted (talk about the worst way to fall, pretty much guaranteed to see stars).
later... |

do you have to take a backroll w2w? I tend to like to learn new tricks small, then take them big.
I think im definatly going to get a helmet before I try inverts tho. |

i you are learning, it's probably best to slow the boat down and shorten the rope. the falls hurt less when you are going slower.

| I haven't tried a backroll yet(because i broke my arm in 2 places) but hearing all of these stories is definely making me think twice! I did try a few 3's the week before I broke my arm and the falls were not bad at all...my second try I went off axis and landed on my left arm and got a big mark and it stung a lil but so far my expieriences with 3's havent been bad. I was thinking that since most people say 3's hurt worse when u crash than backrolls i thought backrolls wouldnt hurt at all...then u guys talk about ur messed up ribs neck injuries and ruptured ear drums. The wost that i've got is a headache for a few days off a face plant. I hope that remains my worst. |

OK every on that's doing these Backroll that are under rotating are doing the same thing wrong. U have 2 keep the rope in as tight as you. this will speed up your rotation. its like standing up and spinging with your arms out and bringing them closer. when you bring them closer you spin faster |

I wasn't going to contribute because my backroll crashes weren't bad at all, but today that changed. I must havelet the handle out towards the end of the rotation, because when I landed I caught the toeside edge and faceplanted BAD. I could not catch my breath for about a minute. It was actually pretty scary having the wake wash over me as I gasped for air. Can't wait to try again tomorrow! |

hey if the wake washes over you at least you know you are landing on the downslope!! Hell yeah try it again tomorrow, maybe leave the wake with a stronger release and be ready to come down heel heavy, the landings shouldnt take long to tune in. |
