If you've got an old beater (like me) you'll be ok in the insurance range. I drove a 86 Mercury Lynx (does anyone even remember these?) when I first got my license and now drive a Saturn SL. Never had a new car (I'll be 24 in March).

However, my folks did do a cool thing with my insurance. I started out on a clean slate. But, they told me that if I did anything to bump up the cost of my insurance, they'd make me pay the entire thing. It was only about $700/yr because I drove a sh*tbox and only had minimum insurance, but it was still a cool deal. Knock on wood, I've never had an accident.

If you're folks are trying to make you pay for your insurance, try running that one by them. But remember, it could come back to bite you on the ass.

I'm just looking forward to being 25...my rates will finally go down and maybe then I'll actually be able to afford to buy that big SUV!!!
