Ladies,
Sorry to be so girly, but I have a problem with my nails. I love them long (they're not really long, but they're a nice length), but when I go out boarding, they rip and it hurts so bad. I have bandaids on three fingers right now. I'm going to cut them short for the time being, but does anyone use gloves? Do they help? Any other suggestions??
Also, if anyone rides in the Austin area and could give a pull, let me know! Always lookin' for one...

First welcome to the boards!
About the nail prob... only thing I've ever tried to do was keep a Nail Hardener on them that keeps them stronger... I used to have long nails but between boarding, horseback riding, workin on cars and riding quads and dirtbikes I just can't keep them that long because it hurts like a *&%#^ when they tear!!!! _________________ reppin' for CBD

Okay this has got to be the most stereo-typical girly post, but what the heck. I have medium-long nails that are natural, no tips or anything. My mother used to do nails and wouldn't let me have fake ones after I moved away - but she would buy all the strengthener I wanted. I think if you have fake nails they're going to come off with that much time in the water and there's nothing you can do about it. When they come off they hurt like a B*^%$ too!! If you have real nails use a salon quality strengthener that you can buy at a beauty supply store. Re-apply (layer it) every couple days then remove it after a week or two and start over. Also, what you eat directly effects your nails - so eat your veggies and protein! My nails almost never break from riding, I'm much more likely to snap a or snag a corner on something else doing normal day-to-day stuff. Using a nail file regularly helps to keep the edges strong too. |

My nails are pretty long and I never even hurt them at all, I get the acrilic put on top of my real nails to keep them from breaking. It works!! And they always look nice.
(I need them to look like this for work ) _________________ Don't dunk the cat in the water!!!! |

I have short nails so that doesn't bother me, I can't stand long nails cause then I just cut em off! The feeling of having long nails bothers me... _________________ ...Wahoo!

I'm thinking, imagine the grip you would have if you had those really long nails that curl round (I don't know if there is a term for these). Forget dropping the handle. hahahaha. Personally, I don't know how you girls do it, ride with long nails. I think I would keep stabbing myself when I crashed?? _________________ ODPC |
