Just a thought.
There's a reason you fill fat sacks with water - it's the same density as the liquid your boat floats on.
If you fill your boat with lead, it'll sink much faster if you have a mishap.
Cheers

Just a thought go to gas stations that sell tires and most of them will give the old tire weights, and then melt them down and poor in to a 4x8 pan or what ever shape you needed, i carrie around 400-500, of lead besides sandbags and a 500 pound sack!!! the lead works great in smaller places were a you can't get a sack exspecially up front, stack them in the nose, that's better then looking over people sitting up front for weight!!!
peace,
hey be care if you do make your own tht stuff is dangerous, if you put a drop of water in the boiling lead it will all jump out of the kettel and that is not good if you want to keep your skin!!
keep in mind even weight is the key to a narrow nice shaped wake, which is hard to do with just sacks of water! |

| Just a thought...I purchased several 90lb bags of concrete from Home Depot the other day. I think I paid like $2.50 per bag of Quikrete. Just buy some Rubbermaid tubs, add concrete, mix with water....you have a damn lot of weight for cheap. Or just pour the concrete in the ski locker... =P |

I was thinking of the quickcrete idea also. I was planning on using 5 gallon pails. Anyone know how much a 5 gallon pail of quickcrete would weigh? _________________ "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin

I was just thinking, if you were in the middle of a large lake with 1000 lbs too much weight in your boat, and some bad weather came your way wouldn't the smallest wave sink your boat? I know we were way to close to sinking once last year, but at least the people weighing us down were able to get out in time. If you had say, lead weights that could't be removed, and your boat was only a few inches off the surface of the water, wouldn't you loose your boat to the lake if a decent sized white-cap hit you dead on? At least with water you could let out enough weight to get back to shore. Is there somthing I'm missing, or is over-weighing your boat realy dangerous? _________________ BITE ME |

| Overweighting is very dangerous. The only reason why I feel safe with non-water stuff is because I'm only putting in 300-600 lbs, I usually only ride with 3 or 4 ppl, and max is 1200lbs, so I'm no where near the limit. |

thats why nobody puts 1200 pounds of lead in a boat, you can roll with 1500 of h2o and 200 of lead and be sittin pretty fat, and water pumps out quick _________________ "I have always considered myself a core rider..." - K-dub

| Thanks wes. That would also be 454.25#/gallon or 1.92 kg/L, or a little less than twice as heavy as water. |

| thatd be crazy if you put that much of lead in, use bags for your major weight then use the lead to help distribute the weight to where you need it more |

| I've got 400 lbs of lead. I use it just in the bow area. with the v-drive and sacks in the rear I was getting way too much bow rise. there is also not enough room for sacks and people in the bow. So I chose to use lead. I got my lead from a local maker of drift boats (he makes lead anchors for the drift boats). I melted it and poured it into ingots of about 20lbs apiece. if any thing happens the size of the ingots will make them easy to move. |

I didn't read through this entire post, but buying lead specifically for wakeboarding is outrageous, it's like a dollar a pound. My suggestion would be to just go to a fitness equipment store and buy some 50-85 pound dumbbells at about half the price.
Later,
Brad |

| If you do some research you can find lead for WAY less than a buck a pound. it takes up much less space per pound than steel, concrete, or sand, thats what makes it so attractive. |

| Here's an idea for you all, provided the interior of your boat can handle it (most boat interiors are meant to be wet)...leave the plug out of your boat for a minute or two while your boat is sitting in the water and let some water run into the bottom of your boat. I have done it a couple of times and it works great, and its super easy to remove, you could even remove the plug while you are driving and let the water drain out, at least mine worked that way. Just an idea, I would use this over lead. |

Ya I agree, fat sacs are a ton easier, and wont wreck your interior. Lots of times we have to leave our boat docked out in the sun to dry out the carpets and that. However if you are looking for a cheap water solution to small wakes, it does the trick |

u could just do what i do. get culagun bottles or 5 gallon rubbermaid jugs. they work just as good. if u fill them w/ sand and water it makes them all the more better. _________________ "stupidity will kill you!"

| Craziest thing... A few years back I met this guy and his dad who had poured a concrete slab in the back of their Nautique 2001. Bimini was made of plywood, but this guy could ride. |
