I had been out of the business world for 12+ years.. But the last two years I have sat in on a number of meetings.

My previous meetings were full of:

Bro
Dude
This is a banger

I don't know which one is worse. I keep hearing all these phrases now.

We need to wrap our heads around this
It’s a win-win
Let’s circle back to that
I/we/you don’t have the bandwidth

I noticed that I get more and more Cheezzze phrases from the non-tech people in the meetings.

What is your favorite line to drop in a meeting?

I just cant wait to drop "$hit the bed" when a project goes south.. Smile

My favorite to drop in a meeting -

I don't make decisions, I'll do whatever the team decides is the right course of action.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I'm sick of
"Strategic"
"indicative"

my favorite line is "I'll rip their head off and skull Eff their eyes out"

Heavy lifting

I might just count the times I hear that in THIS meeting right now.

Second time..... Before I even finished this post

Boom... Another 10 minutes in.

What's bothersome lately are the people that constantly interject "...you know what I mean..." through out the conversation. It's typically added at the end of a sentence that is clearly not difficult to understand. I've gone so far as to put my hands up when I hear that just so I can answer with a (pointless) "Yes, I do know what you mean"

"we should probably look into this issue"

...meaning, they don't have a clue and I should fix it.

Basically, please remove the "we" from a sentence if you are not contributing anything and just simply ask me to do it for you.

The most annoying part of corporate meetings is that if you actually analyze what's been accomplished after most of them and the number of people involved, it usually could have been done in about 1/6th the time with half the people present.

I was many meeting where about 20% of the attendees actually know what was going on.

One guy, our head purchaser had two phrases he used...
1-it's a damn goat rodeo
2-"mark me down as I don' give a F*ck" and he left.

All we had to say after that was "mark me down"

I love it when you are 85% done with the meeting and someone comes in late and you have to have the whole meeting over again.

"Go Deep" We had a company meeting where it seemed this phrase was used 100+ times.

Book of business
paradigm shift
Toolbox/kit (in business world)

And every year will be the most challenging yet...................

Just got off an afternoon call.... And I tried to throw as many of them in without laughing my a$$ off.

It made the call much more enjoyable. the best part was when I would hang one out there and I would get back some positive confirmation.

who would have thought being back in an office could be so much fun.

"Onward and upward"
"Alignment of interest"
"I don't want to belabor the point" - always said by the guy belaboring the point
"Not to beat a dead horse" - always said by the person beating "dead horse"

One of mine is probably "we're getting into the weeds". I say this a lot when discussion on a subject is getting deeper than needed, mostly to move the meeting along.

Granularity is a term that I hear thrown around a lot...so much so I've unconsciously used it a few times myself.

Conference calls have some interesting ones...not necessarily just phrases, but what happens.

People both try to talk at the same time, then pause, say go ahead, then try to talk at the same time again.

Someone popping on to a conference call minutes late and asking about something already covered. This is especially annoying when there is an agenda and they circle back to the first thing on the agenda late in the call.

Have y'all seen this conference call video?
