Good work.

My first tri of the year is in 3 weeks. I hav been slacking a little on my training, admittedly.

Been doing crossfit and my tri training lately to try to catch back up. Have an Olympic distance tri in 9 weeks.

Not a tri, but I just finished my first multiday trail runing series. 22 miles on Lookout Mtn on Friday, 18 miles on Raccoon Mtn on Saturday, 20 miles on Signal Mtn on Sunday. 60 miles, 3 days, 2 states, 6 counties, lots of pain, total time: 10:55:11. Finished 38th with very little training.

Oh! AND they didn't let us wear headphones for the bike or run. I was ok without them for the bike, but dayum, I need some music for the run! It's hard to push it when all I listen to is my breathing!

Yea, don't think they allow any headphones on any USAT(think that is who it is) sanctioned event.

Michelle(my wife) was surprised/disappointed when I told her she wouldn't be wearing her iPod..... Laughing It does suck to run without tunes....maybe because the only time I do, is when I am told I can't....

Yeah I havent run in any sanctioned events that allow headphones so I started training without them. Sucks.

There's no way I would ride/run on public roads with headphones. Seems like everyday I ride someone wants to kill me with their car.

^ agreed. Especially riding a bike. I cannot believe how terrible people are to me when I am on a bike. IDK if it is a coincedence or what, but an overwhelming majority of the time it has been a black person that gives me trouble.

I don't think I would cycle with them, I've never biked with headphones, but the run would sure be nice. If I was fast enough to keep up with the pack it may be better. Now I'm on the lookout for a road/tri bike again Laughing

Talking about running, not riding.... I don't worry a bit about running with headphones on..... Then again, I ride in traffic....I don't run in traffic...maybe that is the difference.

Running = iPod....unless I am doing an event that I can't...

This was me getting up after busting my a$$ passing those people in a stream crossing .3 miles from the finish on day one. They were all approaching it gingerly, and I went all in and paid for it. Laughing (but still passed them)

I wear socks for a tri. Serious racers often don't.

I was at a canoe, bike, run, Tri a few weeks ago helping a friend with timing and some dude Ignored the NO IPOD rule and ran into a car at an intersection. He fell under the rear tire and was run over but it only drove over his leg and he walked away... Limping. I don't think it would have happened if he had been able to hear. There was also a woman here in Dayton that was hit by a car and killed training for the USAF marathon last summer. She was wearing an IPOD also. I ended up running the last half of Air Force Marathon alone other than the SLOW half marathoners last Sept. Still managed a 3 min PR and won the thing, so it can be done. I love music but pass when I'm out running.

I can't listen to music while running. Mostly because the earphones I have tried hurt my ears after a couple of miles. I've tried the regular Ipod earbuds and my wife got me some other type of earbuds that had different sized gel covers. I tried a few different sizes and my ears still hurt. What kind of headphones do others on here wear?

I use the koss earbuds for better sound, but on longer runs the sweat makes it hard to keep them in.

For longer runs these don't hurt my ears at all, sound quality is decent but I can wear them all day.

I've committed myself to a duathlon because the wife really wanted to do one. I'm a pretty decent bike rider so I really don't think that will be an issue, but I can't run for crap.

The duathlon is 1.65 mile run, 11 mile bike, 1.65 mile run. I did a test run today and my times were 15'3" run, 28'14" bike, 17'20" run. My cardio is not an issue as I didn't really ever feel winded, but during the runs my MCL (that I tore playing soccer 10 years ago in HS) was throbbing.

Anyone know any good knee strengthening exercises that will help me get my knees back into shape before august?

Anyone racing this summer? Just finished the tri put on by the local bike shop, improved a lot from last year. Felt a lot better in the water this time, I hung back and let the crowd dissipate, then got into my rhythm. Still should have done more open water training, but oh well.

500M swim 0:10:43
T1 0:01:12

20K bike 0:41:23
T2 0:00:55

5K
0:25:48

Total
1:20:01

Have an xterra even scheduled for next weekend. 1K swim, 13 mile mtb course, 5 mile trail run.

Thread resurrection.

I started doing tri's in late 2013. I went from sprints to intermediates up to an Ironman 70.3 (the "sissy one", for you Ironmen) about six months ago in Miami. F'ing awesome. I'm signed up for the intermediate distance TriRock in Austin on Sep 7. Anyone else still doing these things? Anyone else planning to do that race? I don't know anyone else in it; I'd like to link-up with any WBers that will be there.
