Serious answer: I found my last two jobs through referrals. I will probably find my next one through Linked IN. The networking aspect to job hunting is a huge advantage over just submitting a resume.
What kind of industry are you considering? There are job boards for different jobs. _________________ Work SUX! |

Try to find a recruiter who is local to the area you want to work in.
I've used careerbuilder and The Ladders to poke around but I've never used their pay memberships to do any more than that. One other thing is that many corporations have a "Careers" page on their websites that allow you to respond to job postings, submit resumes, etc. online.
Also, don't underestimate LinkedIn. I was recently blindly contacted by another firm and we engaged in serious discussions and 2 weeks ago I was contacted by a legal recruiter who had a "perfect fit" for my experience. Turned out it was so perfect because it was my employer's main competition, LOL. Anyway, both of those opportunities found me because I took the time to create a really detailed description of what I do on LinkedIn. _________________

On the hiring side, I've used indeed.com and a recruiter from Robert Half. |

eeven - You're hysterical.
Goofy - LinkedIn has been a big one for me. I've reached out to a few people, but nothing has stuck.
pet575 - That's the next route I'm planning on using.
ohsix - Indeed can be good, and bad at the same time. Sometimes their information is incorrect, or not up to date. I check it every week though. |

We have used indeed.com in the past. But we really find all our superstars by referral.
Job hunting can be really depressing from the stories I have heard. _________________ Wakeskating

Similar here. Our best hires have been people that worked as contractors for us through other companies. Our next best are referrals from people familiar with our business that understand the position we're hiring for. |

Yeah, I've reached out to all of the professors/coworkers/friends/colleagues/etc that I could. I'm definitely a firm believer in the "it's all in who you know" philosophy, but only being in Florida for 5years limits my connections down here. Something will come up!
Thanks guys |

Aubs,
What kind of job are you looking for? I found during my search that it does help to look at a few specialty sites as you'll find a few you wouldn't find elsewhere |

I found my job in Tampa while living in Wisconsin officially knowing just one person (girlfriend). It sucked but what I did was search for all companies related to my career in Tampa, and then got on the phone and cold called all of them asking if they were hiring. A few days later someone called back, we hit it off, and I've now been here close to 2 years.
So give that a try... work, population, and jobs are booming right now in Florida, i guarantee someone wants to hire you, no matter your career field. |

Chad - Send me a PM.
Faust - Yeah I've been doing that. Checking out individual company websites has been kind of working... I had one good opportunity from that, but was not impressed by the person that contacted me at all. I could not have worked for someone like that. |

I just went through job hunting hell. Best of luck, it was definitely one of the worst things I've ever endured. My advice--it really depends on the industry/job. My tips for advertising/marketing would be completely irrelevant to teaching jobs/finance/accounting/whatever.
Whatever you do, don't just apply through online portals. Jobvite applications et al are a waste of life for everyone involved. If you have to do them, make sure you're contacting someone at the company or you might as well play the lottery. |

Wife will take over her dad's company with her brother one day. I have told her that when that happens, I will be a stay at home dad. Now, if I could just get her to agree. _________________ Work SUX! |

goofy - *sigh* I wish. I continually remind my bf how easy that plan would be. He (for some unusual reason) doesn't agree. |
