Just got a job in NYC and will be moving in two weeks. Any advice? Both of my parents have lived there and I have some friends, so I know the basics. Any wb.commers lived there and have some tips or places to check out? I'll probably sublet in Brooklyn for a month or two before getting an apartment with a friend in March (in Manhattan or Brooklyn).
I worked in NY for a year. It was a great experience.
you'll learn the local places to eat and drink over time. I remember when I first got there I'd migrate close to midtown touristy area for the first couple of weeks. It's more expensive, as I got more familiar and got to know my area I'd spend more and more time away from Mid town. By the end I'd avoid it at all cost.
Have fun. Just be prepared to save nothing for the first while... _________________ Don't do anything rash.....and don't do anything to get a rash...
For the love of god! Aubs this is NYC, Roccos Tacos is one of your best suggestions for someone moving to New York City?
LOL, sorry Aubs, I'm like your #2 fan, but this is WAY out there! Skip chinatown, little italy, and the best restaurants in the world and go to Roccos!
From LI, lived in Brooklyn for 3 years, etc. Impossible to give you much help really except that you will need more money. Does not matter how much you have now, you need more! lol. Only suggestion I have is live in downtown Brooklyn, that way it's only one or two subway stops to Manhatten (the "city") and far cheaper rent and everything else. If you can afford manhatten proper, go for it. Hang on bubb, you're in for a ride! _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore

I found a sublet in Prospect Heights (Brooklyn) for $950 a month. Gonna live there for a month or two. I'm pumped; seems like a good location and good living situation.
No no no! I want to hear from someone OUTSIDE of the company how it is! JEEZE! Everyone chillax! It just opened in November. I have heard tons of stories from people IN the company with how it is, but haven't heard anything from someone on the outside yet.
Congrats on finding a place! Sometimes that is the biggest battle!
I don't care if NYC rent is too damn high, we pay enough in taxes upstate to support that shithole.... _________________ 2010 Glastron GT 205XL ( Volvo 4.3L GL-J)

Really like the area of Brooklyn I'm in, but just got the word that I landed a full lease in Hell's Kitchen. Pretty stoked, the location is awesome (I'll be able to walk to work). The place is a shoebox...laughably small. But it's NYC, what can you do. I got a screamin deal- I'll be paying 1k a month to live in Midtown.
