Chromebook

Anyone have one? Looking for a sub-$300 internets surfing machine for my dad. Since he is a quadriplegic, he tends to accidentally click on banners and other crap due to poor dexterity on his tablet mouse and inevitably trashes the machine. I was running a 7 VM locked down pretty tight on a HP laptop and when he wastes it I simply revert to snapshot. The drive sounded like a blender the other day so I think I'm just going to replace the machine. He doesn't do "work" on it really, but he does watch DVD's sometimes and most of these do not have an internal DVD drive. I have ripped most of our DVD's down to WMV's which I'm sure I could play on the Chromebook, but I was wondering what you all thought. Win8 is not an option, Linux Mint is probably too confusing for him.

Don't know anything about Chromebook.

And I know you weren't surfing for sympathy.

But, Sorry about your dad. Scared to death of something like that happening to a loved one. My aunt went through ALS which was kind of similar. Sucked.

RampageWake, Chromebooks are great for basic internet needs. They are simple, lightweight, and devoid of extra crap. If people got the stupid notion that they NEED the full Office suite out of their heads, these would probably by the best computer available for what they truly need.

My wife's school just got around 100 of them for this school year.

I think one problem you might have is space. It's rather limited on Chromebooks.

we got my fatherinlaw one, it was the best thing for him. dont work, cant get around easily.. now he doesnt sleep as much in the chiar.... surfs the net, plays games, and social media..
