Love the microwave drawer. We were all set to put our microwave above the stove like everyone else does. I don't like the way that looks at all, so I found a microwave that fit our limited needs and ran electrical to a cabinet big enough to hide the thing. Works great for us - much happier with the commercial-style hood we installed too.

Lighting looks awesome, as do the floors.

The floors would be a nightmare with my dogs & their hair.... Looks like it would keep their nails trimmed though.....Laughing

I know it's kind of wacky to geek out on a garage door opener... but if those Liftmasters are MyQ enabled, I HIGHLY recommend you set that up. I love love love ours - no more worrying about if I left the door open. Super convenient - I have mine set up to alert me when it closes, when it opens, and if it's left open for >30 minutes. Well worth the $45 bux or so for the MyQ gateway.

vette74, I'm guessing it's about a month from being ready to move in. My wife had a baby last week, so we'll move when she's damn well ready.

chavez, I'm not sure what capabilities the openers have, but they will be operational from our cell phones. We'll also be able to see security cameras from our phones, adjust thermostats, control the A/V equipment in the media room and back patio, and speakers throughout the house. We've got a closet dedicated to that stuff that's just a bunch of wires for now, but should have some equipment installed in a few weeks.

ohsix, you've got it already then. I love having so much connected crap in the house, it's very convenient.

This is the "connected items" list for my house:

Porch Lights
Entry Lights
Xmas Lights
Pool Lights
Alarm System
Garage Door
Thermostat
Smoke/CO2
A/V Receiver (indoor/outdoor sound)
IP Cameras (use for baby monitors)
Dish Receiver
Solar Power Monitor

I've got a couple more WeMo switches to install too. Still deciding on what to use them on.

It's techy and geeky and all that crap, but I wouldn't have it any other way. If your items are compatible with IFTTT it adds a ton of options on how you can automate control of them.

my house is wired for all of that, but I haven't pulled the trigger on getting it set up properly. Wife wanted new furniture and the media room set up before I could geek out the house.

Also, I love having the media room. Movies on sunday afternoon with the kiddo are awesome.

I do not envy the guy who has to unravel that mess of spaghetti in the automation closet.

I was thinking that wasn't a bad mess at all. I think the wires just in our theater room were worse than that.

The house is looking great. Long process eh?

Still coming along. We're set to move in at the end of the month.

Storage building/dog house:

View from backyard looking toward back of house:

Looking from back porch into backyard:

Most of the landscaping is done except the grass in the backyard. The landscapers are waiting until the storage building/doghouse is finished to lay the remainder of the grass.

Vent hood over stove is rocked. There will be some molding added where the rock meets the wood.

Mud room looking towards garage:

Landscaping on east side of house:

A poor picture of the front of the house:

Most of the landscaping is done and so are the landscape lights. I'm pretty happy with how the lights turned out. I'll try to get some pictures when it's darker with the lights on.

It's been a while since I've updated this thread. We moved into the new house on October 31st, but we're still settling in. We bought new furniture for most of the house and had it all delivered to a warehouse and moving company. They lost a few pieces in their warehouse which are slowly being found. Some of the pieces came in broken. Some of the pieces didn't come in at all, so we're still waiting on some things. Window coverings has been a similar battle. We're still waiting on some shades. Some curtains were made the wrong size. All of the bedrooms have power retractable shades and some of those are installed, but not yet functional. We're slowly buying wall art. I didn't want to throw a bunch of cheap stuff on the walls, and I didn't want to give my wife and the designer carte blanche on artwork either. We're buying a few pieces a month, so it'll be while before the walls are "finished".

Guest bedroom:

The curtains are up on the windows, but the powered shades haven't arrived yet for this room. You can barely see one of the windows in this picture. There's supposed to be a matching night stand on the other side of the bed, but it came in broken, so we're waiting on a replacement (almost 2 months now).

Guest bath:

This room is actually pretty much done. I am going to have the builder come back and add another can light over the shower. There's plenty of light there, but my wife had a shower curtain installed in the boys' bathroom and there's not much light in the shower when the curtain is closed. So I'm adding lights in both of those bathrooms.

Laundry Room:

Still waiting on a Roman Shade for the window. Otherwise, this room is finished.

Powder bath:

The I want the builder to flush mount the mirror. Right now it's hanging like you would hang a picture. I'm not crazy about the mirror or sink in this room, but my wife and designer picked them out and I just said f*ck it.

For chavez, the server/luggage storage room:

The bird's nest of wires is now organized. Those big black cables are actually looms of 65816818131 Cat6 cables.

Dining area with kitchen and breakfast area in the background:

Living room:

Hallway:

The drapes are on motorized rods. Originally the rods didn't come with the mounting hardware or motors. A few weeks later the mounting hardware came, but we're still waiting on the motors.

Master bedroom sitting area:

Master bedroom looking towards sitting area:

Waiting on Roman shades that go over the doors.

Master bedroom:

Youngest son's bedroom:

That's most of the rooms that are mostly done. None of my office furniture is in yet (except the desk which the builder had made). The gameroom is in "Christmas configuration" and the curtains came in too short. My wife sent them back to be lengthened and they came back wider, but still too short so she sent them back again. My older son was taking a nap while I took pictures, and the other rooms don't look much different since we've moved in. I'll update this thread as the other rooms get closer to complete.

Lots of nice choices. I like this style; it's classy, but not gaudy. Not quite country either, how does your designer classify it?

I don't know that the designer ever had a short description for it. We told her we wanted it to look nice, but comfortable and inviting without being too rustic or country. She would put together slide shows for each room with several pieces of furniture and fabrics to choose from and we would choose from there.

The tech cabinet is dope.

We have the same carpet (as your kids and guest rooms) in our master. It's held up ok. Just don't let the kids run toys on it that might snag. Or let dogs that like to "nest" on it.b Confused

Question: Is the microwave drawer any more difficult to keep clean than the standard units, especially the inside top area?

No idea. I haven't cleaned it. I would think it might be harder to see and clean the inside top compared to an over the stove type because it's below waist level. I would guess cleaning it is about the same once you get into a position to see the inside of it. I've always covered food being heated in the microwave so stuff didn't spatter the inside of it. My wife does the same thing. I've never noticed our microwave being dirty inside (at this house or the old house) so I assume we keep them clean or they get cleaned once in a while.
