ESPN said the average American eats 70 hot dogs a year... That seems REALLY HIGH to me. I love a Costco P Dog every now and then, but that puts me at a solid 10-15 a year at best, probably closer to 8-10.

Anyone really eat 70 dogs a year?

Maybe the average is bumped by places with a lot of dog street vendors.... We have a lot of taco carts, VERY FEW dog carts...

I'd say less than 10 per year. Usually mine are in the form of a corndog.

When I was a kid I probably crushed 70 hot dogs a year (was a picky eater at a young age, so lots of hot dogs and chicken fingers). It slowed down the older I got.

These days, maybe 10-15?
Does other meat in tube form (brats) count? Then maybe 25-30 a year total

Hummels Hot Dogs are the best. I make my family members fly down with them from CT whenever they come to visit.

They did not specify on the dog, so if brats or IS in spaghetti count, my count probably goes up 8-10?

After golf today, when we were squaring up & having a beer @ the clubhouse, I almost ordered and snapped a photo of a dog, thinking of this thread.

Hmm... I'm not american so I don't count, but I buy a pack maybe once or twice a month, but sometimes it's the jumbo's and sometimes the crappy little ones. So at 6 a month that would put it around 72 dogs/year... could be a little less, but the stat sounds about right. We ate way more than that a year as kids.

Bunch of vendors?

You're not grilling them at home...right? That's my thing, if accessible, probably easily to jump on. Why I Costco it, shop, need some food....boom. Their sauerkraut is not terrible either...

We probably eat a little less than that. We've been enjoying some of the new dogs out without the nitrates and nitrites.

Its a mix. Will make them at home but will grab one late night or at festivals.

we have drive in hotdog/rootbeer stands here. if i eat 3 dogs for a meal each time i'm there, plus a few more throughout the year, i probably do 70 in a year. my brother is probably closer to 70/month. i think he uses them as a ketchup delivery device.

Yea, that's what makes the number creep up. We have this great hot dog joint in town called "dog town."

We probably hit dog town with the kids once a month. Two hot dogs each time = 24 hot dogs.

Throw in some summer barbecues, and I'm easily at 30 hot dogs a year.

I would guess ~20 a year for me. Baseball games and cookouts are about the only time I eat them. My 2 year old son probably eats 3-4 a week if you include corndogs though. My wife buys frozen, microwavable corndogs which he eats as snacks.

Definitely less than 10 for me. I had 2 on the 4th, that's 2 total for all of 2014!

I eat maybe 6 a year. However, when I eat them I always have to start in the middle due to my homophobia. Oh yeah, bananas are completely out of the question unless they are sliced. Laughing

As long as you bring the banana to your mouth and not your mouth to the banana you are OK

If we're talking hot dogs only, I'm probably at 20 or so I think. The problem is you always eat two of them at a minimum and you have to count chili dogs during the winter. Plus throw in some baseball games and the number starts to creep up.

I will say I can't remember the last time I actually cooked a hot dog though. It's always at someone else's house.

had a chat with little brother last night. he estimated 12/week. so over 600 per year! "sometimes i'll eat a whole 12 pack in a day, but sometimes i'll go a week or two without eating any."
