with my car...

2005 altima worth about 8 to 10k in my neck of the woods. got the estimate back from the body shop at close to 7000.

So I'm thinking a right off. It's the daily driver so i really don't want to spend a ton of money on a car as we're just going to put miles on it going to and from work.

I'm out on anything Toyota or Honda, open to pretty much everything else that's decent. budget in the 15-25k. HAS to be good in winter, so front wheel drive or AWD. My wife keeps sending me links to the Panamera. bit out of the budget. But I did come across the Cayenne. ANyone have one of these? Any experience with them? 2005-2008 could be i the budget. Not sure about maintenance though....

Bambamski, if it's just a DD get a Subaru. If you need something with power get the WRX or an Outback or Forester XT.

The Cayennes are nice, but you know you are going to get raked over the coals on maintenance. If you get a Cayenne for 15k it ain't exactly going to have low mileage...

The early Cayenne's had some common problems. I think it was cooling lines or transmission lines, I can't remember. Overall, Porsches rank really high for reliability, but the dealers are few and far between compared to GM, Ford, and the lower priced imports. They're also expensive to work on outside of warranty. For winter driving, it's hard to argue against a Subaru.

check out some mazdas too. i don't have any real complaints about my subaru other than some creaks and rattles on the interior and the crappy stereo. i knew about those issues and bought the car anyway.

also, on a wrx or xt, you're going to need winter tires. the tires that came on my wrx are horrible on snow, even worse than i expected.

drove some cars yesterday.

the wife didn't really like the subaru, so i guess that's out
we drove the 1.6 l Fusion, didnt have enough jam for me though, but the wife really likes the car. If the 2 l has enough jam that might be the car... i actually like the look of them as well. The Cayenne is still on the list but finding one is a bit of the issue. like the fusion more then the nissans at this point though

Bambamski, Fusion... Make sure you try and back into a parking space with that or back out of a garage. I had one as a rental car and the "C" pillars created huge blind spots. Something I'm sure you could get used to but was a pain until I remembered it was a rental and didn't care anymore! Twisted Evil
