Take a look at the link of this textbook. Scroll down to page 109 where it provides a listing of the Amendments. Do you spot anything wrong?

I do not see a listing of the amendments on page 109.

Make sure it is the page numbered 109 in the text of the document, not page 109 per the pdf count.

Page 109 of the PDF is about the continental congress

Page 109 of the book is about George Washington's farewell address.

My guess is Okie is referring to page 102 of the book, (page 134 of the pdf).
Knowing Okie, I'm sure he's referring to the second amendment, so he wants to point out that this text book is teaching a revisionist history and bearing arms is only for a state militia.

Now for a comparative study, Okie, find me a history text book, or the bible or whatever that you think is right, and we can point out the flaws in that one as well.

Note I'm not defending this textbook, I'm just saying people are going to believe what they want.

So what's the 1788 definition of 'arms' in relation to 2013?

Hmmm, I wonder if the pages were a little different when I looked at it. Anyway, senorbueno, yes you seem to have found the section and yes the 2nd Amendment is one that has been worded differently. However, it isn't the only one.

Do you not have a problem teaching our kids a different version of the Constitution that doesn't exist?

How do you go about changing the Constitution in a text book when it is still available, as it was originally written all over the place?

I've seen quite a few good write ups that answer this question quite well. Seems they lean towards just about any arms that can be used for personal protection and easily carried, used or transported.

Glad to be of service. Laughing

I honestly think that is one of our biggest problems regarding the Constitution; there is this thinking that a person needs to be a lawyer or scholar to understand the Constitution.

Not yet- luckily I have about another 8 months or so before barprep hell begins.

The body of law interpreting the Constitution is complex, thus, "understanding" the Constitution will indeed take some mental rigor. I know you like everything black and white, but the Constitution is unfortunately quite gray.

Kind of black and tan, really.

It is pretty clear and concise...the more gray we let it become, the more a wedge is driven between the people and their rights. The more our populace believes it is gray, the easier it becomes to strip rights and let government overstep their limits.

I was wondering where you were in your progress as well. Good luck on the bar, when the time comes.
