Couple of Q's here.
I have a sterndrive .. Monterey with 4.3L MPI
Looking to fit a speed control system ....
I know that Perfect Pass has the 'name' and is fitted as standard on many competition boats.
Anybody any view of any pros - cons on either (name does not bother me)
Second part is .. anybody done a diy install of one one these ? ... be keen to know if it is easy enough.
Looking to go with gps version. |

Did the install myself for the PP Stargazer, really easy install. The hardest part is getting the throttle cable hooked up and adjusted just right, the rest is literally running wires and placing things. Works great.
That being said, I would probably go with the Ridesteady because of the additional features you get with it along with the cheaper price. _________________ 1988 Supra Sunsport

Thnx for comments about install
I thought after reading here the choice was obvious, Ridesteady is quoted with great prices ... and I like the interface .. rotary /push know so intuitive.
The issue being the prices here are for paddle wheel ver not the gps version.
When you compare Ridesteady GPS to Perfect Pass Stargazer the prices are not that different ... less than $90
I know there is $100 cash back ... which makes it $1005 compared to PP at $1195
Very tempted by Ridesteady, pity there is not a forum deal. |

I installed the Ridesteady classic a couple of years ago. Was an easy install and works great. The hardest part (mentally) was drilling the hole through the hull.
I don't know if there is a setting for "river speed" on these gps vesions, if there isn't, I think there would be issues at my location. The river moves 3-4mph. |

Ridesteady comes with more features than the Stargazer, that's one reason I would go with it even though I like my Stargazer. Plus they're throwing in the water and air temp sensors for free. Granted the prices are close but with the extra features that the Stargazer doesn't have, I think it tips the scale towards Ridesteady. _________________ 1988 Supra Sunsport

Hey jtryon I saw that you have a 88 sunsport and I'm thinking about buying a 89 and was wondering if you post some pics of you wake? Also on my old boat I have a stargazer system and it works amazingly. |

OK ... one things that does concern me is that Ridesteady warn that their stepper motor is not sealed .., over time rust can form between the rotor and stator of the motor causing it to ‘seize’ or lose power.
Not sure how many have failed in use .... |
