mine didn't come with bolts, but with thick metal pins. the bolts weren't custom, i just picked them up from home depot. the pins would have worked, but i feel more safe with steel bolts with nuts on them than with the pins. i could just be paranoid, but better safe than sorry. oh, another hint while i'm talking about the bolts....don't make the nuts too tight or you will warp the pole. also don't try and cut the cable yourself unless you have the right tools. you'll on fray the cable...we used bolt cutters thinking they would work...wrong. we had to run back to home depot to get the cables cut to the right length. get the pole all set up in your boat as if you were ready to ride. set the cables close to where they will be when you have them attached to the pole and the hook for the eye hole on the bow, mark them, and then bring them someplace to be cut. _________________ ...and when you're done say what a lovely tea party. |

they're more than strong enough to hold up to the tension you could put on them with the straps. they're designed to be able to keep your boat attached to a mooring, so the amount of force you could put on them won't do anything. _________________ ...and when you're done say what a lovely tea party. |

I think that carpeting the wood is a bad idea because it will make it rot when it gets wet. What do you guys think? also, anyone come up with a board rack for theirs yet? I was trying to figure something out to hang over the side of the boat so that it would at least get the boards out of my bayliner 175. Anyone do this yet???

im using pressure treated wood so i dont think it will hurt to carpet it but you are right about it holding water in but i think that will only effect non-pressure treated wood, i could be wrong |

When you put the pole onto the base and then onto the wood is the wood screwed to the floor of the boat? |

You could, I just chose to go cable for the front, so I had zero stretch. I had a buddy that ran ratched straps all around and it worked fine.
You'll get the itch to get that pylon out of your boat though for all the room it takes up. I bought a tower after running my pylon about 3 months. |

blast from the past thread. Glad I found it though.
I think im going to give this a try! I was looking at a Big Air Pylon http://www.bigairpylons.com/
But im liking this idea much better, I can make my own, and try to make some sort of rack to go with it!
Would pulling tubes lower on the jack(not at the top where wakeboard rope will be attached.) cause any problems anyone can think about? _________________

ya, it could pull the bottom of the pylon out, back. i would only pull tubes from the back of the boat. _________________ trying to find a $5-7K usable saltare if anyone knows of one. |

I just went and built mine today per your list. I've gotta say the hardest part was shopping for everything. Well done. Works perfectly!
Here's a pic of my pylon. |
