What's up guys I'm looking to get my first board. My main concern is I don't have a wakeboard specific boat nor do I have a rack or tower. I've got an 86 20ft checkmate I/O with a 350 chevy and mercruiser out drive. This boat is heavy so I'm not sure if that is an advatage or not for boarding. Am I wasting my time trying to board behind this old beast?

For a board my local board shop (wakezone sports smith mountain lake va) reccomended a lf trip. They have a left over 2012 model so maybe I can get a deal..
I've read this is a good board for beginners?

Any input willl help!
Thanks bros

That's a great board for beginners and I'm sure that boat will do just fine for now. You might want to consider getting a tower though.

I'm not looking to make changes to my boat only because if it's age. I've seen the pylons that aren't tooo expensive and I think that would be a good option for me if I ever decided to do something to the boat.

Sure, pylon would work too.

I use a smaller less powerful I/O.
Was a major pain learning off the tow hook.
Bought a Fluidcore pylon, but there are plenty of options including custom ones.
Definitely need the height, makes it much easier.
Wake is smaller, but when learning. Hardly a major concern.
The heavier boat will likely assist produce bigger wake anyway.

Funny enough, I learnt 2 years ago on an LF Trip and still ride it to this day.
I've ridden friends Ronix Vault, Hyperlite State, CWB (model escapes me) and tested a bunch of beginner boards.
Trip is unreal. Gives just enough slip and movement to learn on and allows room to move up and progress. Some of the others really struggle to be pushed.
I love it
