I've been going to the lower colorado river outside of Yuma (Fishers / Martinez / Hidden Shores / Senators) for the last 25+ years. Since I've grown up and bought my own boat, I typically do a big trip once a year out there with a few other boats and a bunch of friends.

That area of the river is getting to be unrideable anymore with the water levels being so low and the constantly moving sand bars... especially for wakesurfing, which is pretty much all I'm doing these days. It's great for hanging out and floating, and occasional rides during the day, but I'd like to get some good quality riding in this year.

Sooo... I'd like to mix it up and try something different.

I prefer houses with a boat dock on the water, but am not opposed to doing the houseboat thing. Roughly 12-14 people, and 2 boats. Warm water is a requirement.

What do you guys think?

Just start looking for places up the river. Blythe, parker, Lake havasu, Needles, laughlin, Lake Mohave. The river gets better and better the farther up you go. I grew up in the area and have ridden every stretch of it from Lake mohave down to blythe. By far the best ridding conditions is gonna be the stretch of river from Needles to Havasu. The water is a little colder, but if its a mid summer trip its going to be 120+ temp outside so it actually feels really good.

There are tons of places to rent right on the water in blythe and parker, whether you want to camp or get a house.

Havasu will be a little harder to get something right on the water if you don't want to camp.

The needles to havasu stretch has a few housing options with docks and such or camping. Look in to rio buena vista and park moabi off the top of my head. If it was me i'd go with Park moabi. they just put in condo type housing right on the water, or it has camp grounds. Plus if you go the condo route they are located in an inlet, away from the cold moving water on the river so the water is a little warmer right where your house is for the little kids to play and whatnot if the actual river is too cold for them. its also located right a the start of the gorge. Also from here its about a half hour boat ride to lake havasu. So you pretty much get the best of both worlds. Waters deep with no sandbars for riding and you can still go to the lake for partying and whatever

Laughlin would be tough, i don't recomend it. Its pretty shallow with lots of rock and sand bars. and unless you luck out the only place to stay would be one of the casinos
